Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the Sea of Cortez has had another 24 hour of cloudless skies. This morning there are a few whispys passing over the cape area and in the very far northwest corner of the Sea.
There is a low and an associated cold front digging down the coast of California this morning and the northern Sea will start to see some cloudiness from this system as the arrives off the southern California coast later this morning. High whispys have already shown up here in Concepción Bay. The tail end of the low will sweep through northern and central Baja tonight and tomorrow bringing strong winds along the outside and possible light rain to as far as Turtle Bay.
Looking south to the Mexican Riviera where the skies are clear all the way south to South America this morning.
It looks like the winds will pick up a bit in the Gulf Tehuantepec today and ending tomorrow as a weak front moves through the Gulf of Mexico. Saturday night and Sunday the winds in the Gulf will return to the mid to low teens again.
Looking out into the Eastern Pacific basin where there are virtually no heavy clouds in the basin including along the ITCZ/Monsoon trough this morning. There are however a lot of cirrus, high whipsy scattered over the Eastern Pacific basin this morning.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where the Great Northwest looks like it has a dry weekend in their forecast.
Off the coast of northern California is a cold low that has descended from the Gulf of Alaska. It will continue sliding down the coast today bringing rain to the valleys and foothills and snow down to around 3000 feet in the sierras in northern California. There could be some lingering showers late Saturday and Sunday. High pressure will return bringing a slow warming trend to the north state. There are high winds along with gale warnings off the northern California coast this morning.
The system will stall over Southern California later today and tomorrow before heading east tomorrow night. Mostly light rain is in the forecast for southern California. The cold front will bring light snow to the mountains and deserts of southern California later today into late Saturday.
This storm will also bring strong winds to the southland and combined with the very high tides coastal flooding advisories have been issued for coastal areas. Seas to 10 feet are forecast and small craft advisories have been posted until tomorrow morning.
Looking now over to the southwest where that storm will bring strong and gusterly winds today along with colder temperatures and a chance of rain and snow showers over the weekend. It will remain cold with a few showers to start next week before a strong warming trend occurs around the middle of the week.
Well, that’s what is happening to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like sunshine for the Sea today with the northern Sea and northwestern Sonora starting to cloud up later today. As the tail end of the front passes over the Baja peninsula and the northern Sea this evening and tomorrow morning the winds will pick up in the Sea to around 20 knots during the day tomorrow then Sunday return to the moderate ranges again.
Not sure how far those clouds will extend down the Sea but it looks like they will be gone by Sunday. The models are not of much help.
Wind-wise here are the details. The northern Sea should see light southerlies for the next 3 days.
The central Sea from around the Bay of San Francisquito moderate northerlies today, picking up to around 20 tomorrow and then Sunday back to the moderate ranges.
From around Puerto Escondido the southern Sea including the East Cape should see light to moderate winds today picking up to the high teens tomorrow then back to the mid teens on Sunday.
The outside passage 19-24 today and tomorrow as that front moves through then back to the mid teens on Sunday.
Mazatlan on the Mexican Riviera will see around 15NW today diminishing a bit on Saturday and Sunday. The rest of the Riviera should see light to moderate winds for the 3-day forecast period. South of Cabo Corrienties the light winds will be from the SW.
Temperature-wise the northern Sea will see daytime highs in mid 60s today. The central see mid 70s and the southern Sea high 70s. Tonight will see the coldest temperatures so far this year with the overnight lows dropping 3-8 degrees from last night.
