Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see the Pineapple Express is still with us. Yesterday it sent a broad broken plume of clouds over the Sea of Cortez from the northern Sea south to around Manzanillo. There were periods of veiled sunshine along with the clouds mostly in the afternoon yesterday.
This morning the plume looks much the same as yesterday and the sky conditions will be about the same for both the Sea and Mexican Riviera, however the southern edge of the plume is around Cabo Corrienties this morning.
The ITCZ/Monsoon trough is again quite active this morning pumping out abundant clouds into the Eastern Pacific basin that move NE and are picked up and steered by a southern jet, aka the Pineapple Express toward Baja.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where under high pressure most of the west coast is dry including the Great Northwest this morning.
Northern California is forecast to remain dry through mid next week when the models are showing that a rather weak system will bring a chance of some light rain to the north state.
In southern California today the high pressure will continue to bring warm weather through Saturday then a weak low will move into the region bringing only a slim chance of any rain. Later in the week a strong trough will bring colder weather and a chance of showers later in the week.
Looking now over to the southwest where a gradual warming trend will continue through the weekend as the high pressure off the coast slowly expands eastward with temperatures climbing above normal today and Saturday. It will continue to be warm and dry albeit cloudy Sunday into early next week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence the hard blow is over, however it looks like we will be looking at 20 knot winds in the afternoons for at least the next three days.
Here are the details: The northern Sea will continue to see moderate NW winds in the mid teens over the 3-day forecast period.
Normally this time of year we see light winds in the morning picking up in the afternoon. Right now it looks like the winds will start a bit earlier, say mid morning, and be in the mid to high teens. The afternoons should be seeing ballpark 20k winds for the 3-day forecast period.
Pretty much the same pattern for the southern Sea over the 3-day forecast period. Light in the morning picking up to around 20 knots in the afternoon.
The outside passage looks like it the moderate NW winds will continue along the passage for at least the next 3 days.
Looking at the Mexican Riviera this morning Mazatlan should see NW winds in the mid to upper teens for the next 3 days. The rest of the Riviera light NW winds to Cabo Corrienties and light SW south of the cape.
Temperature wise, most of the reporting stations in the Sea reported overnight lows in the mid 60 and the daytime highs creped up into the low 70s yesterday. Today we should see daytime highs in the central Sea in the mid 70s and the southern Sea the high 70s with the low 80s still being forecast for the cape area this weekend.
