.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that yesterday most of the Sea saw abundant sunshine.
Last night that Pacific storm that we have been watching for the past 4 days has spread the leading eastern edge of its clouds over most of the Baja peninsula. The low is centered around 900 miles west of the cape this morning.
This image is showing a rain squall extending from around La Paz south to around Cabo Corrienties at 5am this morning.
It looks to me that the Sea will be overcast or at least partially overcast for today and most likely tomorrow as well.
Zooming out I can see that this moisture plume that originates at the ITCZ/Monsoon trough and stretches all the way north in a broad plume to the central British Columbia coast this morning.
As the plume moves NE the entire west coast will start to see rain showers starting this morning.
None of the models coming out of these zillion dollar computers are in agreement with what this cut-off low off our west coast will do. It was not forecast to bring rain to Baja or southern California today but it looks like that is the case. So all we can do is keep an eye on it as see where it goes and what it does.
Right now it looks like from Cabo Corrienties south they have clear skies, however there is a lot of cloudiness just to the west that could drift over as far south as Acapulco today.
A little further south there is a gale brewing in the Gulf of Tehuantepec that won’t say die. This is day 4 of gale force winds and it does not look like the gradient will relax over the Tehuantepec isthmus until Saturday when the winds should drop to around 20 knots.
That’s what’s going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where at the top of this image I can see that the Great Northwest will have a series of wet systems sweep through into the weekend.
Northern California is starting to get wet this morning and showers some strong will continue through tomorrow.
Southern California will see rain from this system starting this morning and then have off and on showers into the weekend. Another colder system is progged to arrive on the southern California coast this weekend.
Looking now over to the southwest where they are having a heat wave with record highs forecast for today and tomorrow. I can see that the Baja moisture plume is sending some wet clouds into southwest Arizona this morning. It looks like there could be some rain in these clouds. Nevertheless the southwest will see some cloudiness the rest of the week with showers forecast for this weekend and another system proged to arrive on Monday into Tuesday.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the fence wind-wise, very pleasant with moderate winds on tap for today, picking up to around 20 knots in most locations in the northern and central Sea tomorrow and then a bit lighter on Friday.
Here are the details: The northern Sea light to moderate for the 3-day forecast period.
The central Sea today: light to moderate NE, around 20 tomorrow from the NW and Friday backing off to the mid to high teens.
The southern Sea today: Light, tomorrow, moderate and Friday strong to around 20 knots from the NW.
The outside passage moderate southerlies today and tomorrow and Friday swinging back around to the NW and still be in the moderate ranges.
The Mexican Riviera mostly light to moderate WNW winds over the 3-day forecast period. There will however be 3-4 feet seas at around 17 seconds for the next 3 days.
A quick last look at the real-time stations in the southern Sea and none were reporting rain, however this IR image is showing some serious dark bottomed clouds moving off East Cape into the southern crossing right now. The webcams at La Paz, East Cape and Cabo are all showing heavy overcast a few minutes ago. I could also see that increasable sunrise in their webcams, as well as looking out my window this morning.
Temperatures about the same as yesterday.
