.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that we have had another 24 hours of sunshine in the Sea of Cortez. It also looks like that moisture plume that has been over the Riviera has continued to move south yesterday and this morning this plume’s northern edge is around Zihuatanejo and the southern edge well south into Central America. So most of the Riviera had abundant sunshine yesterday.
Looking now at the Gulf to Tehuantepec where the Tehuantepecker is still brewing and will continue to linger through Wednesday with winds in the 35 knot ranges.
Looking now out into the Eastern Pacific basin where the real meteorologists are calling that low out there a “Cut-off low” meaning it’s moving rather independently from the flow in the basin. The low is currently around 1004 and the center is now around 300 miles closer to Baja than yesterday morning. The cold front in front of the low is embedded in a long moisture plume that this morning stretches from around 24N134W to the Gulf of Alaska. The plume has moved east over past couple of days and the leading edge is now poised to bring rain to northern British Columbia today, the Great Northwest tomorrow and later tomorrow northern California.
Rain is in the forecast for southern California this weekend.
Starting today the entire west coast will start to see cloudiness from this system, including Baja perhaps by tomorrow morning. One of the bloggers in La Paz is forecasting rain for southern Baja this weekend. We’ll see?
Well I normally cover our local sky conditions here before looking north. I look like I’ve already pretty much done that so just a quick recap of the west coast of America. Warm today in northern California and cooling off as the front approaches.
Southern California still under high pressure warm days and cool night into later in the week when that moisture laden pacific storm arrives. It’s forecast to last into the weekend.
Over in the southwest record daytime highs could be reached today and tomorrow. Warm and dry into the weekend when that storm is forecast to bring some valley rain and mountain snow to most of Arizona.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the fence it looks like today and tomorrow will be delightful. Very moderate winds and lots of sunshine
Here are the wind details.
The northern Sea today moderate NW today and light northerlies on Wednesday and Thursday.
The central Sea from Santa Rosalia south to Puerto Escondido today moderate winds today and tomorrow and picking up to around 20 on Thursday.
The southern Sea including the East Cape: moderate winds in the mid to low teens today and tomorrow then around 20 knots on Thursday.
The outside passage will continue to see very moderate NW winds over the 3-day forecast period.
The Mexican Riviera, Mazatlan moderate NW winds for the next 3 days. Puerto Vallarta south to Manzanillo light NW winds and Zihuatanejo south light WSW winds over the next 3 days.
. Afternoon temperatures in the Sea in the mid to high 70s with the cape area and the Riviera in the low 80.
