.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that there are still a lot of mostly whispys passing over the extreme cape area and as far south as Manzanillo this morning.
The Jet Stream Analysis has been showing the southern jet shrinking for the past couple of days and this morning it has completely disappeared.
There is still a lot of cloudiness out in the Eastern Pacific basin but with no steerage they will spread out and drift with the west/east flow in the basin toward Baja. I’d imagine that by tomorrow morning most of the central and southern Sea will have high whispys overhead. To a lesser extent the northern Riviera. We’ll see?
South of Manzanillo the skies are clear all the way to Central America this morning.
Looking now at the Gulf of Tehuantepec where a full blown Tehuantepecker with winds to 50 knots are forecast to last until this evening when the winds should drop back to around 30 knots into tomorrow and less than 30 on Saturday.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where high pressure is bringing a modest warming trend to the west. Because of the gradient between the Nevada plateau and southern California they will be seeing Santa Ana winds for a few days.
Otherwise not much is going to change in the west until the next low comes in from the Pacific and the models are a bit iffy about when that is going to happen. Perhaps some time later next week, maybe.
Although the days will warm up in the west, without any cloud cover the nights will remain cool.
Over in the southwest they too will have a warming trend as high pressure remains in place for at least to the end of next week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the fence that high pressure will keep the winds brisk at least through the weekend.
The low that was centered over south-central Mexico is now gone with high pressure filling in. The only lows in our hood are south of the cape and that will keep the isobars stacked well into the weekend.
Over the past few days most of the winds on the Baja side of the northern crossing have not reached their forecast values. Hopefully that will be the case this weekend when the Big Art show takes place at El Burro. The winds are currently forecast to be in the high teens Sunday afternoon so we will need a little luck from the wind gods that afternoon.
Here is what is happening today.
The northern Sea should see ballpark 20 knot winds over the 3-day forecast period.
The central Sea the mid 20s today and then 20 or a bit less Friday and Saturday.
The southern Sea around 15-19 over the 3-day forecast period.
The Sea should start to see a modest warming trend starting today.
The outside passage light to moderate over the next 3 days.
The Mexican Riviera light to moderate winds with a southern flavor through Saturday.
