.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the Sea has been pretty much cloud free for the past 24 hours. It looks like that will change within the next 24 hours as there is a large mass of clouds in the Eastern Pacific basin that need some place to go and they are currently moving slowly in the direction of the Baja peninsula. It looks to me that the Sea should start to see the leading edge of these clouds later this afternoon and overnight. By tomorrow morning I’d expect the Sea to be completely overcast. We’ll see?
Looking now south to the Mexican Riviera where there are a few scattered bands of what look like mostly whispys moving through the region this morning and it looks like that will continue all day.
I expect that the northern portion of the Riviera from Cabo Corrienties north will start to see some cloudiness late tomorrow but today it looks like sunshine all day.
Looking south to the Gulf of Tehuantepec where they will be having mostly light to moderate winds over the 3-day forecast period.
Looking now at the ITCZ/Monsoon trough. I can see that it is continuing to be very active. It is a cloud producing machine, spewing out copious amounts of clouds into the Eastern Pacific basin pretty much filling the basin with multi-level clouds.
Well that’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America of America where is going to get very cold for the rest of the week.
There is a very cold low that will be dropping down from the Gulf of Alaska today arriving first in the Great Northwest where snow levels will drop to around 500 feet later today. It does not have a large moisture tap so the amounts of snow and rain will not be very much.
The Temperatures are the real big item for this storm. In northern California in the bay area snow levels will be around 1000 feet and temperatures will have a hard time struggling to get out of the 40s through this weekend.
Southern California will see one more day of dry and mild weather. Tonight that cold front will arrive along the southern California coast bringing rain and low elevation snow. As the storm moves east on Thursday, in its wake will be a very cold air mass with low temperatures over the weekend possibly producing damaging freezes in the colder valleys.
Looking now over to the southwest where after a cold morning it should warm up today and into tomorrow morning. Tomorrow afternoon that cold front it expected to arrive in the southwest bringing a good chance of valley rain and mountain snow into Friday. As the storm exits to the east late Friday a cold air mass will settle into the southwest giving cause to possible widespread hard freeze conditions in the lower deserts throughout the weekend.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. In a nutshell…cold! Back on this side of the Fence today we will see moderate northerlies, tomorrow moderate southerlies and then Friday its back to the strong northerlies.
Here are the details: The northern Sea today moderate northerlies today, moderate SE winds tomorrow and then Friday it’s back to the moderate northerlies.
The central Sea today brisk northerlies (15-19 knots). Tomorrow moderate SE winds. Then Friday the strong northerlies return.
The northern and central Sea will have a cold front passing through late tomorrow afternoon and evening that will be dragging a cold air mass with it so expect to see colder temperatures Thursday night into the weekend.
The southern Sea today strong northerlies, tomorrow light northerlies and on Friday moderate NW winds from La Paz south along the East Cape.
The outside passage should see moderate winds for the entire passage today picking up a bit tomorrow and then on Friday strong NW winds for most of the passage. Pt. San Quinten is forecast to have 27-33 knot winds tomorrow and Friday.
The Mexican Riviera Cabo Corrienties north to Mazatlan today 15-17 northerlies. Tomorrow and Friday more in the 10-12 knot ranges. South of Cabo Corrienties light NW over the 3-day forecast period.
