Monday, December 31, 2012 New Year’s Eve Day

Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that as the tail end of that cold front moved down the Baja coast yesterday afternoon it pushed the jet stream, that has developed, to the south taking all those clouds with it. There were a lot of dark bottomed clouds in that plume and the east and west cape areas saw scattered showers and received about a quarter of inch of rain.
Late yesterday a 150 mph southern jet developed ranging from around 115 along the ITCZ/Monsoon trough NE across the United States to around the Great Lakes. It is currently transporting a narrow band of very wet clouds from the extreme cape to around Zihuatanejo this morning. I can see some thunderbumper activity off shore west of Manzanillo this morning that is slowly moving east towards the coast. I’d expect to see some reports of rain in that area today.
So it is pretty much solid overcast from Mazatlan south to almost Acapulco this morning.
South of Acapulco the current Tehuantepecker is dying and the winds should be less than 20 by this evening.
The next wind event is forecast to start Wednesday night.
That’s what is going on in our hood so looking now north to the west coast of America of America where there will be a few weak systems move though the Great Northwest over the next week, so they will have some wet and snowy days and some dry days, all of it cold with the overnight lows in the 30s.
Northern California will see dry cold weather throughout the week. Sacramento will see overnight lows in the 30s all week.
Looking now to southern California where under building high pressure in the wake of the departing low will see cold and dry conditions throughout the upcoming week. The overnight low in the San Diego Area will be in high 30s increasing to the low 40s later in the week.
Looking now over to the southwest where light mountain snow will continue this morning with light rain showers lingering across central Arizona. The front should exit to the east later in the day leaving Arizona dry and cold into New Year’s Day. It should start to warm up on Wednesday to have daytime highs in the low 60s by the end of the week. Overnight lows will continue to be in the low 30s,
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence the northern Sea will continue to see moderate winds for one more day then tomorrow and Wednesday strong NW winds to 30 knots will be in their forecasts.
The central Sea from Santa Rosalia to Puerto Escondido will see ballpark 20 knot winds today picking up to the high 20s and low 30s on New Year’s Day and Wednesday.
The southern Sea high teens today picking up to around 20 for the rest of the 3-day forecast period.
The outside passage in general it will be in the 16-20k ranges over the 3-day forecast period.
The Mexican Riviera today will be overcast with a lot of dark bottomed clouds along the coast. Wind-wise mostly light to moderate winds over the 3-day forecast period. Cabo Corrienties will pick up to around 20 knots on Wednesday afternoon though.
Taking a quick last look at the Sea this morning it looks like there are a few, mostly fluffy, stragglers in the Sea expecially around the La Paz area but it should be a good solar day in the Sea today.
