Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the tropical moisture plume is still with us and it looks like it will be with us for at least the next 24 hours. Within the plume there is a lot of dark bottomed lower clouds mixed with the higher whispys.
There is a cold front moving though southern California into Arizona today and the tail end of that front will swing through Baja today. Where that cold front bumps into this warm tropical moisture plume there should be good chance of some showers along the peninsula today. We’ll see?
Looking south to the Mexican Riviera where that moisture plume is blanketing the southern crossing and the Mazatlan area this morning and it looks like Puerto Vallarta is right on the southern edge of the plume so they too may see some cloudiness today.
Further south in the Gulf of Tehuantepec the Salina Cruz station was reporting 35 knot winds earlier this morning. Gale force winds are expected to continue through tomorrow before diminishing to around 20 knots late tomorrow night.
Looking now over to the ITCZ/Monsoon trough where it is very active this morning especially between 110 and 130 where all these clouds are coming from.
That’s what is gong on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America of America where the Great Northwest will be drying out today. There will be one more weak system moving through the area before New Years, then is should be clear into mid next week.
In northern California it is cold in the wake of that last storm. There are a few lingering showers and the Sierras will get the last dusting of snow this morning then clear into mid week.
That cold front has moved down the coast and is now moving inland over southern California and into Arizona today. There will be showers along the southern California coast from La La land to San Diego today. There will be light snow in the high deserts and mountains as the system passes to the east today.
In the wake of this system the entire state will be under building high pressure and a cold air mass until mid next week.
Looking now over to the southwest where that Pacific storm will slowly move through the region today and tonight bringing a threat of showers this afternoon to southwest Arizona spreading into south central Arizona by evening. The snow level will fall tonight to between 2500 and 3000 feet with significant snow forecast for above 3500 feet.
It should start to clear tomorrow leaving widespread freezing conditions in the deserts Tuesday morning. The southwest should start to see clear skies starting Wednesday morning with a slow warming trend into the weekend.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like today the Sea of Cortez will see the nicest day, wind-wise for the next week.
Today and tomorrow the northern Sea will see NW winds in the high teens and on Tuesday NW winds in the mid to high 20s.
The central Sea today moderate NW winds in the mid teens. Tomorrow the high teens and Tuesday the mid to high 20s.
The southern Sea today should see light northerlies. Tomorrow moderate northerlies and Tuesday the low 20s.
The outside passage mid to high teens along the outside today and tomorrow picking up to around 20 on Tuesday from Cedros north.
The Riviera today light northerlies winds picking up to the mid to high teens tomorrow then back to the low to mid teens on New Years Day.
Right now it looks like New Years Day will be seeing 20+ knot winds from San Filepe to the East Cape. That moisture plume will most likely still be with us so the El Burro Chamber of Commerce is giving New Year’s Day only one star and it looks like next week won’t be getting more than one or two stars all week.
