Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the amount of moisture laden clouds moving off the ITCZ/Monsoon trough has increased considerably over the past 24 hours.
The area between around 110 and 135 is producing copious
amounts of clouds that are drifting toward the Baja peninsula from around Santa Rosalia south to the cape and further south to around Cabo Corrienties this morning.
Last night the plume blanketed the skies over the central Sea blocking out the view of the full moon last night.
The IR image this morning is showing heavy moisture in the plume passing over the cape area and the southern crossing. The webcams around the cape area are showing heavy overcast this morning.
Looking south to along the Mexican Riviera I can see that they too will be seeing these moisture laden clouds from Mazatlan south to Cabo Corrienties today.
Further south at the Tehuantepec isthmus a cold front is progressing across the bay of Campeche on the eastern side of the isthmus and strong winds are forecast to start surging though the Chivela pass early this morning into the Gulf of Tehuantepec. They will rapidly build to gale force this afternoon with seas to 17 feet this evening. These conditions are expected to last until after sunrise on Monday.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America of America where a strong low and an associated very cold front are progressing down the coast of California this morning.
It is currently centered just west of Cape Mendocino and is slowly dropping SSE down the coast sending pulses of rain and snow inland.
Rain is currently falling in the Sacramento valley and snow is forecast to be around 2500 feet this morning in the foothills. Significant snow is forecast for the Sierras today into tomorrow. The rain should end later today in northern California with cool and dry conditions into next week.
In southern California the front should arrive later today bringing rain, even a small threat of thunderbumpers to the coastal water this afternoon through tomorrow. Snow is forecast for the mountains to the west today through tomorrow. The system should move off to the east late Sunday and New Year’s Eve should be dry and cold in the southland.
Looking now over to the southwest where the high pressure over the region will slowly weaken today as that Pacific storm approaches late Sunday. Meantime warmer afternoon temperatures are expected today along with thickening clouds by late tomorrow. A threat of showers will develop over the region, mainly over south central Arizona deserts and mountains. This is a very cold system and snow levels Sunday will fall to around 3000 feet.
Monday this skies should start to clear bringing warmer weather New Years Day throughout the week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence the northern Sea will continue to see moderate NW winds today and tomorrow picking up to around 20 on Monday.
The central Sea moderate NW today, light northerlies tomorrow picking up to around 20 on Monday.
The southern Sea and the East Cape moderate NW today. Around the La Paz area tomorrow light SW and the East Cape tomorrow light NE and moderate northerlies on Monday.
The outside passage mostly moderate NW wind for the 3-day forecast period with the exception of Mag Bay on Monday with gusts to around 20.
The Riviera Mazatlan to Puerto Vallarta light to moderate NW for the 3-day forecast period with the exception of Mazatlan tomorrow which should see NW gusts to around 20.
Cabo Corrienties south light southerlies for the 3-day forecast period.
The latest IR images of the moisture plume is showing a lot of very dark bottomed clouds heading toward the east cape. I’d not be surprised to see some sprinkles around the cape area this morning.
The Puerto Vallarta web cam showed a lot of fluffys over head this morning.
As this cold front along the west coast of California swings through Baja this weekend we should see the temperatures dip a bit.
73s Y’all
