Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the moisture plume emanating from along the ITCZ/Monsoon trough has sent and will continue to send a band of mostly high whispys over the Baja peninsula today.
There will be times of totally clear skies and periods with these high whispys passing over. The plume is multiple layered so we may see a few fluffys in the mix as well.
Looking south to the area from around Mazatlan south to Cabo Corrienties will also see a few whispys passing over today.
Further south the winds are light in the Gulf of Tehuantepec this morning. That will change by tomorrow morning with strong northerly winds funneling through the Chivela pass into the Gulf by noon tomorrow. These winds will rapidly build to gale force by tomorrow evening with near storm force by late tomorrow night into Sunday morning. There will be a brief period Sunday when the wind will abate somewhat then kick back up again on late Sunday night. Monday it looks like the event will be over with winds back in the 20k ranges.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now to the west coast of America of America where at the top of this image, starting to move out of the Gulf of Alaska is the next weather maker low.
It will arrive along the British Columbia/Washington coast later today bringing more cold scattered showers from Vancouver British Columbia to northern California this evening. It will slide south along the coast on Saturday leaving the Great Northwest dry on Sunday.
The system will arrive in northern California on late tonight into Saturday bringing cold air, valley rain and snow down to as low as 2500 feet.
The second half of the weekend in the northern California is forecast to be sunny and dry. Daytime highs will struggle to top the mid 50s degrees over the weekend.
Fair weather is expected in Southern California through today then rain and snow will work its way down the coast tonight through Saturday. Fair but cool weather to follow on Sunday into mid next week.
Looking now over to the southwest where in general they will have sunny skies and cold weather throughout the weekend with a hard freeze Friday night into Saturday morning. The first of a series of weather disturbances will affect the region on Sunday bringing chances of rain and high elevation snow. Unsettled weather is forecast throughout next week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence the entire Sea will see ballpark 20 knot northerlies today.
The northern Sea south to around San Francisquito bay will see gust to around 18 knot NNW winds today then back to the mid teens Saturday and Sunday.
The central see will see 20-24 knot NW winds today then back to the mid teens on Saturday and Sunday.
The southern Sea will see around 20 knot NNW today, mid teens tomorrow and light NE on Sunday.
The outside passage will see moderate NW winds in the mid teens today and tomorrow picking up to around 20 for the entire passage on Sunday.
The Riviera will see mostly light to moderate NW winds over the 3-day forecast period with the exception of Mazatlan which should see ballpark 20 knot winds on Sunday.
So far we have had a fairly warm December. Daytime highs here in the cove are about 9 degrees warmer than an average December. Overnight lows about 4 degrees warmer. The average daytime high in the cove here is 69 and the low is 56. With that cold front moving down the west coast this weekend we should see some cooler temperatures for the rest of the year. We’ll see?
Tonight is a full moon and your last chance to give it a howl this year.
