Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that starting late yesterday morning there has been mostly light whispys passing over the central and southern Sea.
These clouds are coming from convection building on the ITCZ/Monsoon trough and moving north and then catching the west/east flow in the Eastern Pacific basin and head east toward the Baja peninsula. The IR imagery is showing them to be mostly high cirrus, whispys with a few lower level clouds in the mix.
It looks to me that we will be seeing mostly sunshine through these high scattered bands of whispys passing over the central and southern Sea today.
Looking south to the Mexican Riviera it looks like from around Mazatlan to around Cabo Corrienties will see a few whispys pass over but that’s about it for any cloudiness along the Mexican Riviera today.
Further south in the Gulf of Tehuantepec we have a Tehuantepecker brewing. The cold high pressure north of the area is responsible for these gale force winds is forecast to modify and shift eastward this afternoon allowing for these winds to diminish to around 20 knots or less. Right now it looks like moderate winds will prevail though the end of the year.
Looking now over to the ITCZ/Monsoon trough where I can see a lot of thunderbumper activity all along the zone out to around 150W. The area that is pushing clouds north is between 110 and 135 this morning. These conditions should be with us for at least the next 24 hours.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America of America where the west coast is mostly drying out this morning.
The Great Northwest will see some lingering rain and snow showers this morning then a weak system is progged to arrive tomorrow then quickly pass to the east on Saturday with high pressure filling in the wake and in general dry conditions into next week.
In northern California the rain in the valleys will have mostly stopped by this morning. Snow in the Sierras will taper to a stop later today and then pick up for a day of snow on Saturday.
Friday this next storm is progged to arrive on the west coast. In this image I can see it swirling in the western Gulf of Alaska and over the state of Alaska this morning.
Southern California today will continue to see snow on the Grape Vine this morning then tapering off with just cold and windy conditions for the rest of day and tomorrow. Saturday that Alaskan storm will bring more light rain and mountain snow to the southland over the weekend.
Looking now over to the southwest where they can expect to see valley rain and mountain snow late today and tonight. Most of it will be NE of Tucson. Tomorrow and Saturday will be dry and cold with a hard freeze expected Friday night and Saturday morning. Cool and dry conditions are on tap for the weekend with a better chance of some rain and snow early next week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like the Sea of Cortez will continue to see moderate winds today then pick up to around 20 tomorrow then be in the moderate ranges for the weekend. Right now it looks like New Years Eve and well into next week will be on the gusterly side
Here are the details.
The northern Sea today moderate NE winds today, 18-20 tomorrow from the NW and Saturday light to moderate NE winds.
The central Sea will continue to see light to moderate NW or NE winds today picking up to the 22-24 knot ranges tomorrow from the NW then for the weekend back to the moderate NW winds.
The southern Sea light NW winds today picking up to around 20 tomorrow and then moderate NW into the weekend.
The outside passage strong NW winds from Pt. San Quinten to Mag Bay in the 25-29k ranges diminishing for the entire passage tomorrow and Saturday to the mid teens.
The Mexican Riviera Mazatlan to Puerto Vallarta today light NW picking up to the mid teens tomorrow and sat. Cabo Corrienties south light to moderate SW winds for the 3-day forecast period.
Overnight lows in the northern Sea were in the 40s. The central Sea 50s and the southern Sea 60s last night and the Riviera in the low 70s. Today’s highs in the Sea will be in the low to mid 70s and the Riviera the mid 80s.
