Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning first with the Jet Stream Analyses from NASA. It is showing a strong southern jet extending from just south of the Hawaiian Islands crossing the Gulf of Mexico and ending up along the U.S. eastern seaboard. It is currently crossing the Sea of Cortez from about the northern crossing south to around La Paz this morning. This plume is moisture laden and this image is showing a heavy overcast will be passing over the Sea for at least the next 24 hours, perhaps longer. So dark bottomed clouds are in our forecast for today with not much chance of any sun.
Looking now south to the extreme cape and beyond. This image is showing the skies to be clear all the way south to Central America.
Further south in the Gulf of Tehuantepec where a fast moving cold front moving through the western Gulf of Mexico is giving cause a whopping pressure gradient across the isthmus. Storm force winds to 50 mph are forecast for today with seas building to 22 feet by this evening. Tomorrow the winds should abate to Gale force and by Monday this wind event should be over.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America of America where off the Oregon coast is a big honk’n 985 low that has moved out of the Gulf of Alaska. This will be the weather maker for the entire west coast this weekend.
It is bringing heavy rain to the Great Northwest and significant snow to the Cascades and the forecast is for periods of wet and cold weather to continue through Christmas day.
Rain is falling in northern California this morning and will continue through the weekend heavy at times. Snow is forecast for the Sierras through Christmas Day.
Looking now at Southern California where cool and unsettled weather will prevail though the middle of next week as a series of storms move across the area. The first will bring rain to the southland starting this evening and tomorrow, followed by a second system Sunday and Monday with fair weather forecast for Christmas Day then another shot of rain Wednesday and Thursday.
Looking now over to the southwest where high pressure will keep mostly sunny skies and dry conditions in place through the weekend. Early next week the next system will bring a chance of valley rain and mountain snow on Monday and Christmas day with high pressure briefly returning by mid week when another low system is expected to move through the area next Thursday and Friday.
.Well, that’s what is gong on to the north of us, pretty much through Christmas day. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like overcast skies will be with us at least for today. During these winter months the southern jet, aka the Pineappple Express swings back and forth from the northern end of the Sea to Acapulco with what appears to be a will of it’s own.
Wind-wise it looks like today and tomorrow will be the nicest days between here and Christmas.
Today in the northern Sea in general, moderate winds over the 3-day forecast period in the mid teens.
The central Sea today and tomorrow in the moderate ranges in the mid teens and Sunday picking up to around 20 knots.
The southern Sea around 15 today, 18 tomorrow and 20 knots on Sunday.
The Mexican Riviera light NW winds today from Mazatlan to Cabo Corrienties and moderate winds to the mid teens tomorrow and Sunday.
Manzanillo south mostly light southerlies over the 3-day forecast period.
The outside passage it looks like two more days of light to moderate winds before picking up to around 20 on Sunday.
Sunrise temperatures this morning in the northern Sea were in the 40s. The central and southern Sea the 60s. With these northern winds bringing cold from the other side of the Fence the daytime highs will be in the mid 60s to the very low 70s today for the Sea. The Mexican Riviera will continue to see daytime hights in the mid 80s.
