Voice to Text---
Sometimes I wonder why anyone would want to do the weather. Yesterday someone threw a snowball at my palapa. Brought it all the way from British Columbia. Smuggled it in. Contraband! No respect!
One of the first things teach in meteorology 101 is NEVER, NEVER apologize for your crummy forecast for the day before. The other is, its always best to take a look outside before you make your forecast.
With that in mind, I’ll start fresh today by looking first at the 24 hour loop.
There were a few whispys pass over the Sea of Cortez yesterday but in general it was a good solar day.
To the south a moisture plume moved north off the ITCZ/Monsoon trough and send a broad band of rather thick clouds, some with dark bottoms, over the area from around Puerto Vallarta to Zihuatanejo. This band continues this morning and will most likely continue all day.
Looking at the ITCZ/Monsoon trough this morning which is sort of snaking along 8N this morning. Out around 130W there is an area of convection that is sending a lot of clouds mostly east. As the band gets closer to the mainland it swings north and Voila, right over the area from Puerto Vallarta to Zihuatanejo.
Looking now at the Gulf of Tehuantepec where ballpark 20 knot winds will continue to move though the isthmus today and early tomorrow. That will change by early Wednesday as cold air begins funneling though the Chivela pass into the Gulf and by late Wednesday they can expect to see gale force winds into Friday.
That’s what is happening in our hood so looking now north to the west coast of America of America where a cold front has moved out of the Gulf of Alaska and is now off the British Columbia coast. It is forecast to start sliding down the coast later today and by tomorrow will bring rain to the valleys and foothills and snow down to around 3000 feet for the entire west coast.
This is a cold and rather fast moving system so there will not be a lot of snow accumulations either in northern or southern California. Temperatures will dip quite a bit as the storm passes as much as 15 degrees from today.
Looking over to the southwest where they can expect to see dry weather until Thursday morning. That Pacific storm will bring widespread rain to the lower elevations and snow to the mountains. Below normal temperatures will persist into early next week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the fence none of the models agree, but here is what I think will happen.
The northern Sea today will see moderate NW winds. Tomorrow moderate SW winds and Thursday strong SW winds.
The central Sea today will see strong NW winds to around 20 knots. Tomorrow moderate SE winds and then on Thursday the Sonoran coast will see strong southerlies and the Baja side moderate southerlies.
The southern Sea moderate northerlies today. Light northerlies tomorrow and then Thursday moderate southerlies.
The outside passage will continue to see moderate NW wind today and tomorrow and then pick up to around 20 on Thursday.
The Mexican Riviera Mazatlan will see brisk NW winds today then light Wednesday and Thursday. Puerto Vallarta to Cabo Corrienties will see light NW over the 3-day forecast period and south will see light southerlies for the 3-day forecast period.
Temperatures-wise many locations this morning had sunrise temperatures in the mid 50s this morning. Daytime highs in the Sea today will be in the low to mid 70s. The Mexican Riviera will continue to see daytime highs in the mid 80s and for most of the Riviera it will be overcast.
