Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the moisture plume that has been sending whispys over the peninsula has dried up. That’s the good news. The other news is another broad band of high whispys is slowly over across the Eastern Pacific basin toward the Baja peninsula. These clouds are very high and thin so we should continue to have good solar days. This band of clouds is about 12 hours away.
Further south the Mexican Riviera will be seeing abundant sunshine today.
The ITCZ/Monsoon trough is rather quite this morning with a gentle east/west flow.
Looking now at the Gulf of Tehuantepec where 20-30 knot winds will continue to funnel through the Chivela pass into the Gulf with seas of 8-9 feet. These winds will diminish to the 20-25 knot ranges and continue into Monday. Models are suggesting the next wind event in the gulf will occur in the middle of next week and likely be just below gale force.
That’s what is going on in our hood so looking now north to the west coast of America where the northern California is still being hammered with one storm after another. Flooding is now a major problem with a long list of rivers reaching the flood stage later today and tomorrow. The Truckee River is forecast to be a major problem starting tonight into tomorrow.
The worst is not over with another powerful storm forecast to hit northern California tomorrow. The storm should center more on Oregon and Washington than northern California though. These systems so far have been rather warm with little snow below 7000 feet. Sunday’s storm will be colder and snow levels will drop.
There was one unconfirmed report of someone building an ark on top of Mt. Shasta this morning. I’ll have to check that out.
Southern California will see periods of light rain through the weekend. Gusterly winds and areas of fog will accompany the showers in the mountains with the snow level above 8000 feet. The rain will move east Monday afternoon with dry and mild weather next Tuesday and Wednesday.
Looking now over to the southwest where with the storm track well to the north the only affect will be some occasional high cloudiness. High pressure will build back into the southwest late Monday through Wednesday with the temperatures in the lower deserts warming toward record highs in the lower 80s.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence looking at yesterday’s data it looks like none of the winds in the northern crossing region approached the forecasted values. Guaymas was forecast to have around 22 and their high gust was around 12 knots. Same thing on this side of the pond, here in the cove we were suppose to have around 22 and our high gusts were around 15. Hopefully I’ll be closer today.
So here goes: The northern Sea, the Sonoran coast, a bit less than 20. The Baja side of the northern Sea, 12-15 again today diminishing a bit tomorrow and Monday.
The central Sea: San Franciscito bay to Puerto Escondido 15-18 today diminishing to 10-14 Sunday and Monday.
The southern Sea today: in the moderate ranges over the 3-day forecast period, say 12-15 NW.
The Mexican Riviera over the 3-day forecast period should see less than 10 mostly from the west or southwest.
Overnight lows will continue to be in the low to mid 60s in the central Sea warming up to the low 80 during the day. The southern Sea will see daytime highs in the mid 80s and the Mexican Riviera will also see highs today in the mid 80s.
