3 DAY WINDS FORCAST ON THE WEBPAGE

The following is from my daily ham radio Report

And a smile at the end of the Dailys
Voice to Text……….
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see a a mix of a few scattered fluffys and whispys around the Sea.
When I put this image into the animated mode I can see where a light plume of clouds drifted in from the Pacific yesterday sweeping down the Sea to about LA Bay before heading north into Arizona. The tail end of these clouds is currently over the northern Sea.
Over along the Sonroan coast I can also see a mix of fluffys and whispys along the coast. Further south along the Riviera it looks like they have been having rain all night from about Puerta Vallarta (where they had 2 ¼ inches of rain in the past 24 hours) all the way south to central America. Thunderbumpers are forecast for today and tonight form Puerta Vallarta to Manzanillo. Off to the west of the Tehuantepec it looks like thunderbumper city there with numerous thunderbumpers building and blowing out.
For the Sea today it looks like we could see some whispys during the day but mostly sunshine.
Now this morning it looks like we may have something cooking in our tropical kitchen. That low I mentioned earlier that is about 350 miles southwest of Manzanillo is continuing to show some signs of organization. The National Hurricane Center is saying that this system has the potential to become depressed during the next few days as it slowly moves west-northwest. They further say that there is a high chance of this system becoming a hurricane within the next 48 hours. If this happens her name will be Andres. Jake and Archie will keep y’all posted.
A quick look over into the Caribbean and I can see the next tropical wave in now about Honduras and it should enter the basin sometime tomorrow.
I don’t see any signs of a marine layer along the outside this morning so looking now north to the West Coast of America. Where the low over southern California will become a cut-off low today and drift further down the Sea before rejoining the westerlys after a brief visit to the northern Sea.
This might be a good opportunity to explain the difference between a cut-off low and a closed low. The cut off low is completely removed from the primary westerly flow while exhibiting very little forward (eastward) progress. In some instances (like what will happen Friday) a cut-off low will move to the west or retrograde. A cut-off low is a closed low but not all closed lows are cut-off lows.
A closed low is just a region of low pressure distinguished by a center of counterclockwise circulation surrounded by one or more isobars.
What all this means is after a quick visit to Mexico this low will slip back into California and most likely bring some moisture with it, and along with it the chance of some showers and thunderbumper to southern California and the southwest.
So enith cut-off lows 101.
Back down here in Baja we should be having another great day. Moderate to light winds and temperatures in the mid to high 90s. today.

3 DAY WINDS FORCAST ON THE WEBPAGE

The following is from my daily ham radio Report

And a smile at the end of the Dailys
Voice to Text……….
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see some clouds moving in from the Pacific in the far northern Sea extending some whipsy as far south as the middrifts. These are part of the counter-clockwise circulation going around that low over central California. This system is slowing moving to the southeast and it looks like, for at least this morning, the far northwest corner of the Sea will see some cloudiness. Southern California could see some shower activity this weekend.
The rest of the Sea is pretty much cloud free.
Looking south to the Mexican Riviera I can see a few whispys passing over Cabo Corrienties right now. I can see some rain in several location from Cabo Corrienties south. Further south I can see where there has been some light thunderbumper activity from about Manzanillo south to Central America during the past 24 hours. It looks like that will continue today.
Looking further south to the ITCZ a low has developed a couple hundred miles southwest of Acapulco during the night. The National Hurricane Center is saying there is a low chance, less than 30%, of this system developing into a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours. Satellite imagery is showing this developing slowly with some heavy thunderbumper activity in this cell, but only moderate winds.
Glancing over to the Atlantic I can see out next tropical wave about the middle of the Gulf Stream. It should be here in a couple of days.
Looking now at the rest of the Eastern Pacific Basin, all I can see are a few whispys between here and Hawaii this morning.
Looking now at the west coast of the Baja peninsula I can see some fog extending inland from Turtle Bay but none to the north.
So looking now to the West Coast of America where it looks like the last of those lows that have been invading the west coast for the past two weeks, is over central California this morning. As this system progresses to the southeast, a ridge of high pressure will edge across the northern California and the Pacific Northwest coasts. The return of high pressure will allow temperatures to bounce back to above average temperatures over the next few days indicating that I may not have to take a sweatshirt with me on my sojourn to California Thursday. This system will also be spreading clouds over most of Arizona and the Great Basin and a good chance of showers through the weekend.
Here is the paradox. This system is forecast to hang around California until this weekend, moving only slightly to the east, before moving to the Great Basin.
As this low moves slightly to the east. Increasing the gradient, we COULD see southerly winds today and tomorrow in the central Sea. I’m big-time iffy on this and the graphs, charts, as well as the chicken feathers, incense and crystal ball are of not much help. And the coamps files did not come up either this morning.
Either way it does not look like the winds will not be over perhaps 15 knots.
So it looks like today in Baja, in the central Sea, we will have north or southerly winds. I know that’s not much help to the northern passage makers like Erick and Terry and the mighty Quinn on Mija but that’s the best I could do.
The rest of the Sea should see a southerly flow. In general the weather will be delightful with temperatures in the low to mid 90s again.

3 DAY WINDS FORCAST ON THE WEBPAGE

The following is from my daily ham radio Report

And a smile at the end of the Dailys
Voice to Text……….
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can’t see any clouds at all. Looking over at the Mexican Riviera, way south, between Zihuatanejo and Acapulco there is currently a couple of thunderbumpers working. All moving from the mainland to off shore. The webcam at Acapulco is showing heavy clouds and rain. Also I just looked at the image around Cabo Corrienties and there was some whispys in that area.
Looking around the rest of the Eastern Pacific Basin, again no clouds at all to be seen.
Looking further south to the ITCZ: It’s fairly active this morning out to about 110. Lots of moisture moving in from the Caribbean.
As far as anything tropical: Recent runs of the global models suggest that broad low pressure MAY eventually develop sometime this week over the ITCZ between 99 and 105 west. The real weather guys, the ones with the PhDs, are uncertain as to whether this scenario will be realized and are in a “wait and see” mode before making a forecast of a developing low.
The last half of June is usually one of the quietest portions of hurricane season. In the 14 years since the current active hurricane period began in 1995, only four tropical storms formed in the last half of June. Thus, recent history gives us a 29% chance of a last-half-of-June named storm. None of those four storms since 1995 became a hurricane, and hurricanes are quite rare in June.
I would imagine that this is the reason they are being a bit cagey about making a forecast. So we will wait and see as well.
So that’s it for out hood. No clouds and nothing cooking in the tropical kitchen.
Well almost nothing, it does look like from Zihuatanejo south to Central America will see some summer thunderbumper activity today.
Looking now with the GOES fog seeing satellite at the west coast of the Baja peninsula. Turtle Bay has some coastal fog extending inland a ways but from there north it looks like only a very light marine layer along the coast that should not impede the visibility of any passage makers.
So looking now to the West Coast of America where with these lows moving in from the Pacific are keeping the western conus unseasonably cool. I have had three emails from friends I will be visiting in California later this week, telling me to bring a jacket and perhaps a sweatshirt for the evenings.
Southern California today can expect drizzle today and perhaps showers tonight as this next low gets closer to the coast.
Back down here just another absolutely gorgeous day. The el Burro Chamber of Commerce is giving it 4 stars. Afternoon temperatures should be a few degrees warmer than yesterday and the winds will be in the light to moderate ranges today.

3 DAY WINDS FORCAST ON THE WEBPAGE

The following is from my daily ham radio Report

And a smile at the end of the Dailys
Voice to Text……….
.Taking a God’s eye look down into the Sea this morning I can see that that plume of whispys, which was rather thick at times, that passed over mostly central Baja, yesterday has moved off to the northeast this morning.
Looking out into the Eastern Pacific Basin I can’t see any clouds at all between here and Hawaii.
Looking south to the Riviera: I can see where there was some thunderbumper activity around Manzanillo last night. The thunderbumper started about Guadalajara and then moved toward Manzanillo building in strength. It is on the wane right now. Stan reported they have not had any rain there yet. There is not a lot of tropical moisture in the air and I would not expect to see much thunderbumper activity along the Riviera today, say about a 20% chance.
Looking further south to the ITCZ: Not a lot an activity there either this morning. No tropical waves entering the basin. No forecast for any tropical development for at least the next 48 hours.
Interesting, this is what the National Weather Service for Arizona said this morning.

“THE ECMWF MODEL (that’s the European model) DEVELOPS A TROPICAL SYSTEM 400 MILES SOUTH OF ACAPULCO MONDAY MORNING...THEN MOVES IT NORTH TO NEAR PUERTO VALLARTA WHERE IT DIES AS IT MOVES SLIGHTLY INLAND. NEEDLESS TO SAY...THERE IS A TROPICAL MOISTURE LINK-UP INTO AZ BY FRIDAY. IN CONTRAST...THE GFS MODEL FORECASTS NO SUCH FEATURE NEAR ACAPULCO NOR PUERTO VALLARTA NEXT WEEK.

AGAIN...BECAUSE OF MODEL DISCREPANCIES IN THE EXTENDED PERIOD ALL
OFFICES (that’s Arizona) DECIDED TO TAKE A WAIT AND SEE POSITION...MEANING WE WILL TREND OUR FORECASTS TOWARD CLIMATOLOGY.”
Which means they are going to look out the window, check things out, and see what happened last year at this time.
Me, I’m confident with going with the GFS model because it pretty much agrees with the National Hurricane Center’s 48 hour forecast that is saying “There ain’t nothing cooking in the Eastern Pacific Basin tropical kitchen for at least the next 48 hours.
OK, back to looking around with the satellite images. This image is showing that the west coast of the Baja peninsula has some pockets of fog from Turtle Bay north to southern California this morning. It looks like it is hanging off the coast a ways except at Turtle Bay where it extends inland a bit.
So looking further north to the West Coast of America where those lows moving in from the Pacific are keeping things unseasonably cool for June. Gradient pressure (low up there and high down here) is producing breezy conditions in the California deserts, the southwest and the northern Sea again today.
Back down here we should be having (quoting Alex) an absolutely marvelous day. Lots of sun, perhaps a few stray high whispys, moderate winds and temperatures again in the mid to high 90s. Most locations will see temperatures creep up a degree or two today.

3 DAY WINDS FORCAST ON THE WEBPAGE

The following is from my daily ham radio Report

And a smile at the end of the Dailys
Voice to Text……….
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that thin veil of whispys continuing to pass over central Baja. This is coming from a stationary low sitting southwest of the cape out about 115. This pattern should continue at least for the next 24 hours. Today the Sea should see mostly sunshine.

Looking south to the Mexican Riviera this morning I can see a thunderbumper working in the Manzanillo area and again this morning a big honk’n thunderbumper just off the Tehuantepec coast. Interesting looking at the Manzanillo webcam it showed the exactly the same beautiful image that has been there for months. Do you think they might leave this image on there to attract tourists….naw.
The Riviera from Manzanillo south could see some thunderbumper activity today. Other than that there is nothing cooking in our tropical kitchen for at least the next 24 hours. Not even a tropical wave crossing the Atlantic.
So with little to discuss about the weather in our hood I though I would talk about something that we will be seeing a lot of in the summer months: that is lightning.
Lightning is an electrical current that passes through the air sometimes from cloud to ground, sometimes between clouds or within the cloud, and sometimes even from cloud to air.
Lightning takes place because large pockets of electric charge build up within the thunderstorm, with different amounts of charge and even different signs of charge in different locations.
Once the charge centers get too strong, lightning heads from the charge center to areas of lesser or opposite charge.
There are two main charge centers within the thunderstorm (thunderbumpers). One is negative and found at mid-levels of the thunderstorm, near an altitude where the temperature is slightly below freezing and hail is suspended by strong updrafts (upward-moving air currents). A positive charge center is found near storm top, where small ice crystals have a positive charge.
Cloud-to-ground lighting can originate from either of these charge centers as a stream of current heads toward the ground in a series of branches called "stepped leaders."
Once a path to the ground is completed, a series of upward and downward "return strokes" quickly follow to complete to what we see as a flash, usually lasting less than a third of a second.
The passage of the current through air, which is not a good conductor, results in a tremendous heating of the air briefly to a temperature of about 50,000 degrees F, that’s up to 5 times the temperature of the surface of the sun. This causes an explosive expansion of the air, resulting in what we hear as thunder. Lightning fact: The average size of a bolt of lightning is approximately ¾ of an inch in diameter and it can be seen from outer space.
So endith Lightning 101, and we move over to the West Coast of the Baja peninsula where a heavy thick fog bank hugs the coast from Pt. San Quinten to southern California extending inland quite a ways. Some morning drizzle can be expected.
Looking now north to the West Coast of America of American were it is unseasonably cool throughout the western conus as low pressure continues to dominate the region. This pattern will continue into next week.
As these lows pass through California into the southwest, the resulting gradient (high down here and low up there) will create some gusterly conditions in the southwest including the northern Sea.
Back down here we should be having an absolutely beartiful chamber of commerce day. Lots of sun with some whispys passing overhead along with a chance of some thunderbumper activity along the Riviera. Temperatures remain pleasant and will be in the mid to high 90s today.

3 DAY WINDS FORCAST ON THE WEBPAGE

The following is from my daily ham radio Report

And a smile at the end of the Dailys
Voice to Text……….
.Looking down into the Sea this morning with the satellite in the animated mode I can see that several bands of whispys passed over the central and southern Sea yesterday.
Off in the Pacific there is a light plume of whispys taking aim on Baja this morning and it looks like that will continue all day. Not enough to block the sun thought.
Looking south to the Mexican Riviera this morning I can see that there were a couple of squalls off the coast but it does not looks like any made it to shore.
Right now there is a big honk’n thunderbumper just off the coast of the Tehuantepec. The qscatt did not show this at 3am. It has been building ever since though. Tall clouds tops.
So it looks like the Sea of Cortez will be a carbon copy of yesterday.
Looking now south to the ITCZ: That low that has been imbedded in the ITCZ for the last couple of days is not showing any signs of tropical development. Most likely it will transaction into a trough after 48 hours. The good folks at the National Hurricane Center are still giving it a weak 30% chance of tropical disturbance. So it looks like the basin will dodge another bullet.
So looking now over to the West Coast of the Baja peninsula: It looks like a heavy marine layer from Pt. San Quinten to southern California border extending inland a ways. This is forecast to produce some drizzle along the coast and inland a ways this morning.
Looking now north to the West Coast of America where there is not much going on weather wise in the western conus. Weak lows continue to move in from the Pacific into northern California and Oregon. Showers are forecast from the upper Sacramento to the Cascades today. Most of the moisture will be dissipated by the time these lows reach the Great Basin, however to the north I can see some showers in Idaho and Montana this morning.
The southwest will be mostly dry today and as a stronger low moves in from California it could begin to import some moisture from northern Mexico.
Back down here in paradise there will not be much change from yesterday. Light whispys passing over most of the day. Mild temperatures in the mid to high 90s. Light to moderate winds and abundant sunshine.

3 DAY WINDS FORCAST ON THE WEBPAGE

The following is from my daily ham radio Report

And a smile at the end of the Dailys
Voice to Text……….
.Looking down into this Sea this morning I can see that yesterday the Riviera had some whispys passing over most of the day from about Cabo Corrienties south.
Last night a light plume of whispys started edging over the cape area and continues this morning. It looks like this light plume of whispys will continue to drift over the cape from La Paz south to Cabo today.
The rest of the Sea is pretty much cloud free and sunshine will be the order of the day.
Taking a look south now to see what’s cooking in our tropical kitchen. Well, that area of convection along the ITCZ (which is about 8 north this morning) around 120 has a 1006 low imbedded in it and this low is forecast to finally move off the ITCZ within the next 12-36 hours thus enhancing the possibility of tropical development. The National Hurricane Center has upgraded its chances from low to medium, and now gives it a 50% chance of further development. Water vapor imagery is not showing any cyclonic development at this time but this could happen as soon as it moves off to the NW. Development could take place rather fast with going from a depression to a hurricane in as little as 24 hours. This system is about 1000 miles southwest of the cape and if and when it develops should not be a threat to Mexico of the Sea of Cortez. But you never know. Sometime you expect Mother Nature to toss you a fast ball and she hurls a curve.
Tropical Waves: Yesterday’s image showed two tropical waves, close together, off the Honduras coast. This morning I can see only one. They probably merged. We’ll see when it egresses into the Eastern Pacific Basin.
So that’s about it for our hood. Looking now at the West Coast of the Baja peninsula where I can see a heavy marine layer from Turtle Bay into southern California. The (what I call the hippy-dippy weatherman) from the LA area called this the June Gloom of All June Glooms with an almost 5000 ft marine layer this morning.
So looking now at the West Coast of America what fog and drizzle are forecast for southern California and rain from Eureka to Portland this morning.
I can see where most of the Great Basin is overcast this morning with some patches of rain.
The southwest mostly dry today, with patches of mid to high level clouds over the area. With the gradient between the southwest and Mexico the northern Sea will be gusterly at times.
But back down here we will be having a chamber of commerce day.
Temperatures about the same as yesterday will be in the mid to high 90s again today.

3 DAY WINDS FORCAST ON THE WEBPAGE

The following is from my daily ham radio Report

And a smile at the end of the Dailys
Voice to Text……….
.Looking down into the Sea this morning. I can see just a few morning fluffys around the Sea and a few whispys around the cape area.
It looks like from about Mazatlan to Cabo Corrienties have has some whispys passing over the past 24 hours. That will continue for this morning then there will be a period of clearing.
Looking further south to the ITCZ there is a couple of 1008 lows imbedded in large area of convection out about 125. I can see there are some serious thunderbumpers in this area. However, I can see no cyclonic development and the National Hurricane Center is forecasting only a very minimal chance of this developing into anything tropical within the next 48 hours. Even if it does it’s a bit too far to the west to affect us here.
Looking over in the Caribbean I can see two tropical waves, fairly close together, a bit East of Honduras. They should enter the basin probably late Thursday or Friday.
Based on historical data we are due to have had at least one tropical depression by now, but for today there is nothing cooking in our tropical kitchen. Perhaps those two tropical waves will cause some tropical activity this weekend. We’ll see?
Looking now over to the West Coast of the Baja peninsula. I can see a light marine layer off the coast from Turtle Bay to Ensenada the extending inland up into southern California this morning.
Looking now north to the West Coast of America where it’s sort of un-June up there. A series of lows is bringing clouds to the entire western conus and rain from the upper Sacramento valley to Portland today and it looks like it will continue into the weekend.
Over in the Great Basin I can see where a heavy band of thunderbumpers moved from southwest Arizona and is currently dumping rain from Farmington New Mexico to Santa Fe and is moving up into Colorado.
Pretty much unsettled weather for the Great Basin through the weekend.
For the southwest: an exiting low pressure system will leave behind a chance of showers this morning, mostly in the higher terrain of south-central Arizona. The lows will keep the area cloudy and temperatures below normal into next week.
Back down here in paradise we will be seeing abundant sunshine today with moderate winds in the Sea. I noted that a lot of locations had brisk off shore thermally driven winds yesterday.
Temperatures a tad warmer this morning mid to high 90s today.

3 DAY WINDS FORCAST ON THE WEBPAGE

The following is from my daily ham radio Report

And a smile at the end of the Dailys
Voice to Text……….
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see the moisture plume that has blanked mostly the central and northern Sea for the past 24 hours is still with us. It looks like it is thinning out and I would expect to see the afternoon with more sun than whispys.
It also looks like the Riviera saw some whispys yesterday especially around the Cabo Corrienties area. I can see a couple of squalls developed well off shore from Cabo Corrienties and there is one there right now. If the pattern continues it will dissipate before reaching land.
Taking a look south: I can see where that large area of convection and associated 1008 low sitting on the ITCZ about 115 has pretty much blown itself out the past 12 hours but is building again, however not with the intensity that it had yesterday.
The only other low in the Eastern Pacific Basin is also sitting on the ITCZ and is out about 125. It is also 1008. No threat there.
And so it looks like there will nothing cooking in our tropical kitchen for at least the next 48 hours. If there is a tropical wave it is too far out in the Atlantic for me to see.
So looking now at the West Coast of the Baja peninsula: There are too many clouds passing over southern Baja to see if there is any fog along that coast. It looks like some rain has moving in from the Pacific, and a early bird reported drizzle at Turtle Bay this morning. The skies looks clear out in the Pacific now and those boats making the passage to the north should see clear skies the rest of today.
So looking now north to the West Coast of America where our moisture plume is blanketing the northern Sea, most of Arizona and New Mexico this morning. I can see scattered rain in numerous locations in both Arizona and New Mexico.
That series of Pacific low pressure systems I mentioned earlier will continue to move into the western states all week. One stronger one will move into the southwest today bringing a slight chance of showers and thunderbumpers across southeast California and southwest Arizona this morning and central Arizona this evening.
The gradient provided by these lows will create gusterly conditions in the northern Sea as they pass through.
Also it looks like the northern Sea around gonzoga and la bay could see some 25 knot winds spilling over from the Pt. San Quinten area. Gonzoga has been showing 15K winds all night. I have tweaked the forecast there accordingly. I could be a little hi there but I’d rather be high than low.
It also looks like the Sonoran coast from Puerto Penesco to Guaymas will be seeing winds in the 20K ranges this afternoon. The rest of the Sea 15 knots or less.
So all in all not a bad day in store for us. It looks like this afternoon, perhaps late morning we will start to see a bit more sun than yesterday.
In Weather guy 101, it says to “Always step outside and look around before publishing your forecast”, which I (of course) did this morning and it looks like it is starting to clear up a bit already.
Temperatures today will continue to be pleasant in the high 80s and low 90s for most locations.

3 DAY WINDS FORCAST ON THE WEBPAGE

The following is from my daily ham radio Report

And a smile at the end of the Dailys
Voice to Text……….
. Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see a broad plume of whispys passing over the cape all the way north into southern California this morning. All this starts to the southwest of Hawaii right on the ITCZ and takes aim on Baja. It looks like this pattern will continue all day.
Switching satellites and looking at the ITCZ at about 115 there is a very large area of building convection. The qscatt image showed 30-50 knot winds imbedded in this. It looks like it has doubled in size within the past 12 hours. It looks like about a 1010 bar there and it appears that there is a slight cyclonic movement. There is no mention of any tropical development here by the National Hurricane Center. However I’m thinking if it looks like a duck….etc. Well we will have to wait for the National Hurricane Center’s next update to see if this turns out to be a duck.
Other tropical news is the missing tropical wave. It pretty much stopped at Nicaragua and Honduras dropping 2-3 inches of rain over those countries over the past two day. It’s forecast to move northward toward Cuba bringing heavy rain with it. They are saying that there is only a 30% chance of tropical development.
As a sidebar: I noted that there was a 5.7 earthquake near Ceiba Honduras a couple of hours ago. It’s a bit too early for any damage reports. They are just recovering from a large quake two weeks ago that destroyed a large bridge.
OK, moving back to our hood and looking at the west coast of the Baja peninsula for any signs of a marine layer.
Seeing none, so looking north now to the West Coast of America where most of the west coast is cloudy this morning. Southern California and Arizona are seeing clouds from this moisture plume that is sending whispys over us. Showers and possible thunderbumpers are in the forecast for southern California today and Arizona tomorrow.
In the Great Basin cool and unsettled conditions will continue through much of the week as a series of disturbances move east from the California coast into the Great Basin.
These low systems moving in from off the California coast will keep an enhanced southwesterly gradient across southwest Arizona and the northern Sea for gusterly conditions at times.
Meantime back here in Baja. Most of us missed the rising of the full moon last night and will most likely will not be able to see it tonight as well. This moisture plume will continue to bring a canopy of whispys and fluffys over Baja today. Not a lot of moisture in these clouds, however I would not be surprised is someone reported a sprinkle or two today. We will most likely see some pockets of sun but they won’t last long.
It looks like the temperatures in the central Sea will be in the high 80s low 90s today while the southland mid to high 90s.

3 DAY WINDS FORCAST ON THE WEBPAGE

The following is from my daily ham radio Report

And a smile at the end of the Dailys
Voice to Text……….
.Looking down into the Sea this morning first with the Google weather overlay image I can see that we have been having whispys pass over mostly central Baja for the past 24 hours.
Looking south to the ITCZ I can see that the convection is starting to flair up again helped along with a subtropical jet will be sending more whispys our way. The plume of whispys will start to thicken up later this morning and we will most likely see more than an occasional fluffy pass over during the day. The northern Sea however will continue to be pretty much cloud free.
As far as tropical: No news on the missing tropical wave however in the southwest Caribbean and central America they have been getting heavy rain for the past 24 hours. There is a low over central America right now that the good folks at the National Hurricane Center are saying this has only has a 30% chance of any tropical development within the next 48 hours.
Also yesterday NOAA's Climate Prediction Center issued an El Niño Watch yesterday, saying "that conditions are favorable for a transition from neutral to El Niño conditions during June - August 2009". The pattern of changes in surface winds, upper-level winds, sea surface temperatures, and deeper water heat content are all consistent with what has been observed during previous developing El Niños. If this indeed occurs, it is likely that Atlantic hurricane activity will be suppressed due to the strong upper-level winds an El Niño usually brings to the tropical Atlantic, creating high wind shear that tears hurricanes apart.
I still have not been able to find anyone including, what Patrick, GSD calls the Colorado cool-aid kids, to come forward with a forecast for the Eastern Pacific Basin. It’s sort of like when we get through with stuff that will impact the US; we may get around to talking about the Eastern Pacific Basin. Maybe!
OK, so nothing cooking in tropical happening in our tropical kitchen today and just a heavy plume of whispys coming our way. It looks like we will be seeing some partially cloudy skies today.
And taking a look along the west coast of the Baja peninsula it looks like the marine layer has pretty much moved off shore for today.
So looking north now to the West Coast of America where not much is going on weather wise. That weather maker low that sat off the California coast for a week is now exiting the Great Basin. The southwest, including the lower Colorado River valley and the far northern Sea will be a little gusterly until it exits out into the plains states.
But back down here in Baja today the central and northern Sea will see a tad more wind than we have been seeing. Sort of moving up from light to moderate. Some overcast is in store for us. This moisture plume is spread out over 2,000 miles and is looking more like the Pineapple Express that we have in the winter months than a tropical moisture plume, creating some great sunrises.
Temperatures about where they were yesterday: in the mid to high 90s.

3 DAY WINDS FORCAST ON THE WEBPAGE

The following is from my daily ham radio Report

And a smile at the end of the Dailys
Voice to Text……….
.Looking down into the Sea of Cortez this morning I can see where for the past 24 hours we have had periods of a mix of sun and overcast for most of the peninsula.
This morning that area along the ITCZ ,out about 125, that flared up yesterday sending all those clouds toward Baja has diminished in intensity and the flow toward Baja is much lighter. It looks like the central and southern Sea will see partial whispys pass over today with mostly sun.
Nothing directed at the Riviera this morning and no thunderbumper activity along the coast in the past 24 hours. So the Riviera will be seeing abundant sunshine today. And not squall activity off to the west of the Riviera this morning.
Now the big tropical news this morning is: The tropical wave that was last seen off the Honduras coast has disappeared. Gone! All modes of imagery have failed to locate it. Fear not! The National Hurricane Center is hot on the trail saying they are following a very weak signature aloft moving slowly west across the Eastern Pacific Basin. These meteorological detectives are waiting for sunrise to see if visible imagery today may yield more decisive clues. There is not such thing as a stationary wave so it’s moving out there someplace. However it looks like we will have to wait until tomorrow’s report for any news on this missing tropical wave.
Looking now with the GOES satellite at the west coast of the Baja Peninsula. All I can see is a very light marine layer off the southern California coast this morning. The rest of the Baja coast looks clear this morning.
So looking now to the West Coast of America where the slow moving system has moved ashore in Northern California and loosing strength. Northern California will be seeing mostly sunshine today as this system moves slowly into the upper Great Basin where it is expected to exit tomorrow.
Interesting looking at the water vapor imagery, most of the rain yesterday came from lows flowing counterclockwise around the perimeter of this system.
So Northern California will be see warmer temperatures and increasing amounts of sun as this system moves east.
Southern California can look forward to its seasonal June gloom.
Over in the Great Basin they will see some thunderbumper activity as the system passes through.
For the southwest the system will be well to the north, however the gradient will be causing some gusterly conditions mainly around the Tucson area and the far northern sea.
Back down here is Baja more pleasant June weather is in store for us today. This morning’s fluffys will pass over and we will then have some whispys pass over during the day, but all in all it should be a good solar day.
Temperatures should be in the mid to high 90s again today.

3 DAY WINDS FORCAST ON THE WEBPAGE

The following is from my daily ham radio Report

And a smile at the end of the Dailys
Voice to Text……….
.Well looking down into the Sea I can see that that plume of clouds that has been emanating from along the ITCZ has continued to send a mix of fluffys and whispys over Baja and the Riviera for the past 24 hours and is not likely to let up any today.
The heaviest plume is directed toward northern Baja say from Santa Rosalia north. Pretty solid cloud cover for the northern Sea. The central Sea will continue to see a mix of sun and whispys today. The southern Sea a mix of fluffys and whispys today with a good mix of sun. The Riviera from Mazatlan to Cabo Corrienties could see some thunderbumpers this afternoon. Lots of squalls off the Riviera coast this is...
As far as our tropical weather: There are quite a few amateur meteorologists that tag onto Dr. Master’s weather blog every time there is something cooking in our tropical kitchen. This morning there were 40. And all had an opinion on what was going to develop from this tropical wave that is in the Honduras area this morning. There is no clear signature of the wave and the good folks at the National Hurricane Center are making no predictions as to development, just giving its location and speed. You now know what I know and no one is sticking there head out and saying possible tropical development.
So with that bit of non news I’m switching satellites to the GOES fog imagery satellite, and it looks like there is just isolated pockets of a spotty marine layer along the outside of the Baja coast.
Looking now north to the West Coast of America where that low that’s centered about 250 miles off the northern California coast is finally started to move east. It is either sprinkling or raining from San Diego to Portland this morning and will continue through tomorrow when this slow mover edges over into the Great Basin. There they will not see a lot of rain but numerous thunderbumpers as the front passed.
For the southwest the system will move past to the north and southeast Arizona may see some sprinkles but that’s about it for any rain. Wind will be the factor there with gusterly conditions are in store for the weekend along with a slight cooling trend.
Back down here in Baja we will continue to see periods of overcast today. Temperatures won’t be affected much with highs in the mid to high 90s again today. Several locations could hit the century mark today.
AND, the Fishing is good. Winds are fair. Quoting Alex on Maitairoa this morning “Just another marvelous day in Paradise”.

3 DAY WINDS FORCAST ON THE WEBPAGE

The following is from my daily ham radio Report

And a smile at the end of the Dailys
Voice to Text……….
.Well looking down into the Sea this morning it is the first time in two weeks that I’m seeing clouds in the area. This image is showing that low off the California coast in a giant counter-clockwise swirl and clouds on the outer edge swinging in from the Pacific into the northern Sea.
To the south the ITCZ is very active this morning and has been for the past 12 hours. Along the ITCZ between 120 and 130W there is a large caldron of building convection that has been moving northeast toward the Baja peninsula and the Mexican Riviera. South of Manzanillo I can see numerous thunderbumpers both along the coast and inland a bit.
Currently there are whispys passing over most of Baja and the northern Riviera with only an occasional fluffy. It looks like this pattern will continue today with increasing fluffys.
This image is also showing a tropical wave getting ready to enter the basin from the Caribbean. There is also some low lever cyclonic circulation near the wave. This looks like it could develop into something tropical however the prognosticators at the National Hurricane Center are in a “wait and see” mode.
So it looks like the basin is going to see some whispys pass over today and perhaps some fluffys as well.
As a sidebar: ishy isshy in in the area. There was a 5.4 earthquake between the Cape and the Socorro Islands last night around 10:00. No reports of any damage so far.
Ok, moving over to the west coast of the Baja peninsula with the GOES satellite and it looks like just a very spotty marine layer all along the outside this morning.
Looking now north to the West Coast of America where that closed low just off the California coast is the weather news for the western conus. This system will finally begin to track inland beginning tomorrow crossing northern California into the Great Basin by Sunday.
It is currently bringing rain from San Francisco and the Central Valley north to Portland. This should continue through Saturday night.
For the southwest, northern Arizona is currently overcast however high pressure over the area will bring more hot weather to the area. The storm will move well to the north and the weekend is forecast to be dry and hot. Winds could be a factor as the storm passed to the north on Sunday.
Back here in Baja we have a little change in our weather pattern. Not much change in our winds in the Sea but we should be seeing some whispys this morning and perhaps some fluffys pass over this afternoon.
Temperatures will be in the mid to high 90s for most locations. All in all, it’s shaping up to be another great June day. All this good weather and the Dorado fishing is still hot in the Mulegé area. Does it get any better than this?

3 DAY WINDS FORCAST ON THE WEBPAGE

The following is from my daily ham radio Report

And a smile at the end of the Dailys
Voice to Text……….
. Looking first down to the ITCZ this morning I can see a lot of convection all along 8 north. Streaming off this area of thunderbumper activity are plumes of clouds of varying moisture content. Some whispys will be seen in the Mazatlan to Puerta Vallarta area, and some denser clouds will be seen to the south of Manzanillo with the possibility of thunderbumper activity along the coast.
While I’m looking at the area where most of our hurricanes and himicanes start I wanted to mention that I still can’t find any source that is forecasting an Eastern Pacific Basin hurricane season. Several sources are discussing the Atlantic season and their studies are showing a near-average Atlantic hurricane season is on tap fro 2009 with 11 named storms, 5 hurricanes and 2 intense hurricanes. The Eastern Pacific Basin does not get a lot of press because these storms normally do not affect the U.S. I read the entire 33 page report and not a single mention of Pacific storms. We are sort of the step sister on the hurricane priority list
OK, back to Baja Looking now at the Sea of Cortez I can see some whispys in the far northern end of the Sea that have moved in from the Pacific. The rest of the Sea is pretty much cloud free this morning.
Looking over to the west coast of the Baja peninsula I can see a spotty marine layer, either low clouds or fog from Mag Bay north to southern California this morning. On site early bird reports are saying thick fog at San Juanico and Turtle Bay.
So looking north now to the West Coast of America where the main feature on this image is the circulation around the low sitting off the California coast this morning. As I mentioned earlier the low is currently stalled about 300 miles off the northern California coast. Several of the circulating lows have reached the coast and from San Francisco north to Portland it is either raining or forecast to rain today and for the next several days. This system is forecast to drift slowly toward the coast today then remain stationary just off the coast thru tomorrow, then move inland over central California on Friday.
This Pacific storm is moving much slower than originally forecast and is also weakening. The strong winds at night for the next several days has been downgraded to perhaps 20 knots in the far northern Sea. It currently does not look like the winds will reach the northern crossing. The strongest are now forecast for tomorrow and Friday night.
So it looks like this storm will not have as much affect on the Sea at originally forecast. Today we should see abundant sunshine. Temperatures in the high 80s in the north and high 90s in the south.

3 DAY WINDS FORCAST ON THE WEBPAGE

The following is from my daily ham radio Report

And a smile at the end of the Dailys
Voice to Text……….
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can’t see any clouds in the Sea or along the Riviera. The 24 hour loop is not showing any thunderbumper activity along the Riviera. The only clouds I can see are about half way to Hawaii and are emanating from the convection along the ITCZ.
This ITCZ is quite active this morning with large areas of thunderbumper activity all along about 9N.
No tropical waves in the Eastern Pacific Basin and the next one is several days out in the Atlantic. Speaking of which; today is the first day of Hurricane season for the Atlantic. So far no one. that I know about, has stepped forward and made a forecast for the hurricane activity for the 2009 season.
The GOES image is showing the heavy fog well off shore along the coast from Turtle Bay to San Diego where it is thick and drizzly in San Diego. There is a currently a just light marine layer at Turtle Bay.
Back to Baja and I’m switching back to the NOAA surface chart and it is actually more interesting is what it is NOT showing. That tight 1010 cutoff low off the California coast was suppose to be producing 8 ft waves along the California coast and 20-25K winds were suppose to show up along the outside of the Baja peninsula and the pressure gradient was suppose to translate into some 20-25 Knot winds in the northern Sea. The coamp files are now showing these winds to show up Thursday. The National Hurricane Center Tropical Weather discussion is still saying the event should have started last night.
I’m going back to using the crystal ball and the chicken feathers where there is some real science involved.
And they are saying that the Sea of Cortez and the Riviera will be having another chamber of commerce day with light to moderate winds and lots of sunshine. Temperatures will be in the low to mid 90s today.

3 DAY WINDS FORCAST ON THE WEBPAGE

The following is from my daily ham radio Report

And a smile at the end of the Dailys
Voice to Text……….
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can’t see any clouds. Looking south to the Mexican Riviera I can see that there was some thunderbumper activity around Ixtapa Zihuatanejo last night that is continuing this morning.
The rest of the basin is pretty much cloud free.
Looking south to the ITCZ where we have our second tropical wave of the season moseying along out about 110 and has met up with a low there. They are entering cooler waters as they move west, and the models are showing not much of a chance of any tropical development from this small system.
Not a lot of convection along the ITCZ this morning but enough to send some drifting clouds northeast over the southern portion of the Riviera. There is not a lot of moisture in the area but this is pretty much the start of thunderbumper season for the Riviera and most of the southern locations are forecast to have a possibility of thunderbumpers today.
Looking now over to the West Coast of the Baja peninsula where June gloom is setting in along the coast. From Mag Bay north to southern California the marine layer along the coast is almost 3000 ft thick and there is a good chance it will not burn off until this afternoon.
Now looking north now to the West Coast of America where the item of interest is the low off northern California coast. This will be bringing showers from the upper end of the Sacramento Valley to the Oregon border for the next few days.
Now, as this low and the associated cold front get closer to the coast some dynamics will be taking place causing the winds in the Sea of Cortez, perhaps as far south as the northern crossing, to have 20-25k winds during the night. This should start tomorrow night and occur on both Wednesday and Thursday night. The models are currently showing these winds to be only in the northern end of the Sea but I’m extending them south to the northern crossing for both tomorrow and Wednesday.
So during the day the winds will be moderate in the northern & central Sea but there is a good possibility that during the night, starting tomorrow night we will be seeing some 20-25K winds out there.
But today in Baja we should be having another chamber of Commerce day with light to moderate winds. Lots of sun and temperatures creeping up just a tad to the high 80s to mid 90s.
