Boca Grande, Florida, paradise

Best place I could ever ask to work is on this island. Quaint and quiet, money to be made and like no other place around. Life is good.

"I wanna go back to the island
Where the shrimp boats are tied up to the pilin
Gimme oysters and beer
For dinner every day of the year and I'll feel fine
I'll feel fine

I wanna be there
Wanna go back down and lie beside the sea there
With a tin cup for a chalice, fill it up with good red wine
And Im a chewin on a honeysuckle vine

Yea now, the sun goes slidin cross the water
Sailboats they go searchin for the breeze
Salt air it aint thin
It can stick right to your skin and make you feel fine
Makes you feel fine

I wanna be there
Wanna go back down and dine beside the sea there
With a tin cup for a chalice, fill it up with good red wine
And Im a chewin on a honeysuckle vine

Yes and now you heard my strange proposal
So get that packard up and lets move
I wanna be there before the day
Tries to steal away and leave us behind
Ive made up my mind

And I wanna be there
I wanna go back down and die beside the sea there
With a tin cup for a chalice, fill it up with good red wine
And Im a chewin on a honeysuckle vine

Yeah with a tin cup for a chalice, fill it up with good red wine
And I'm a chewin on a honeysuckle vine"

-Jimmy Buffett, "Tin Cup Chalice"

Also today, three months no smoking! Yay for me!

U ROCK!!!! I love good news! Thanks from me ...and others, whether they know it or not..

My history on smoking was unfortunate until I said NOOOO to the taxes on them in January, 1991! Whatever works, huh?

Since then I regret that I polluted the air of people I care about..including myself.

You and me and "Us and Them" are all in this beautiful blue 'boat' together. One tiny little ripple transforms the whole... Thanks, Josh

And our time is flyin'
See the candle burnin' low
Is the new world risin'
From the shambles of the old

If we could just join hands

That's all it takes

Yeah so i went fishing today in Boca at the north pier. Slow, hot, not much happening. We were there for probably an hour or so, left my poles on the dock with the drags loose, ran to the car, etc. Nothing. I come back, cast out and tighten the drag, go over to my tackle box, away for maybe 45 seconds, turn around and see my $300 combo sailing over the side of the dock into the water. No bueno. It looked like a damn torpedo in the water lol. I saw a tail or dorsal fin, but no idea what I hooked. I dragged around with a 3oz weight and a treble for a bit, no luck. One of those "oh wells". We had our Christmas party at work and that was fun, so at least the day ended well. But damn, come on! One of them things. Moral here, never let your guard down.

Welcome back:)

Looks like a fun trip leaving more questions than answers.

Everyone I've ever dealt with that lives or is from Spain has been a joy..especially the horses.

Didn't get a chance to meet any horses, but definitely nice friendly people. Very cool culture! I can say, without a doubt, I'll be back again some day. Barcelona...

Kay,
I am back. Wishing I was still "there" though. Barcelona, oh what a city! The trip really made me consider Spain to be a place to set up shop one day. Don't get me wrong, I love my country. Spain just had a sort of allure that was a bit irresistible. The people and culture were quite different than here. Everyone seemed happy and appreciative. There didn't seem to be the complacency we have here. Aside from the culture, the country and city were simply beautiful as I tried to illustrate in the pictures. Some day... New York was New York, always interesting. Opportunities! My objective was to check out some cooking schools, but after evaluating the cost vs returns, deemed it a bit expensive. I keep thinking maybe I'll move to the city for awhile to truly begin my career as a chef and make more money in the process. Trying to figure everything out at the moment.

Ummagumma, not at the moment and it's not on YT, boo! Floyd is amazing with their philosophical lyrics and deep layered guitar, keyboards, horns, vocals, etc. Love that band. I could listen to Echoes from the Live at Pompeii album for days on end. Dark Side, sorry Dylan, Beatles. I think they kind of one-upped ya there! I will admit though, The Stones are my favorite. There's just something to the ragged simplicity that I find hard to ignore.

Hey back, Dak!

Hey Dave, thanks for swinging by. Florida's lucky streak won't last forever. I went through Charley, albeit just north. That was all it took to be in the safe zone. It was an incredibly small, tight system. I also was in south Dade after Andrew and I have to say, damage was quite similar. I was in college 2004-2005 and it was crazy how many days we had off from school during all those storms. I'll never forget the faces of the poorer people standing in front of their destroyed homes. It was very sad indeed. I just remember thinking to myself they probably didn't have adequate insurance, etc. I had been interested in hurricanes since I was very young. I remember getting very excited for Andrew when I was six and rode out Erin ('95) on my father's sailboat. It was Charley and the following string of storms that ultimately made meteorology in general a passionate hobby of mine. Good stuff, scary stuff!

wow...waaay back when my now-grown chilluns were watching Sesame Street, I'd dissolve into Dark Side when they were sleeping. Pink Floyd's kinds of insanity were healing for my rough edges. Later, when they had a resurgence, my boys thought I was 'cool!'
Your album of Barcelona is beautiful..'feels like' clean, fresh air...true?
BTW, loved Johnny Cash's version of "...been everywhere.." hadn't heard it before, and he did ace it!
Thanks also for phys.org.

Hello GatorWX, I'm Dave from San Jose, CA. I like your blogs they are interesting and so are the photos. I have spent two summers in Florida during 2003 and 2006 so I can be able to see a hurricane. Unfortunately, there was no hurricane activity while I was there.

That's a neat video! And yes, it's still very much under construction. I guess I could have included a shot or two of the most famous building in town lol.

Thanks a lot for this beautiful album, Josh. I see you've experienced the double charme of Barcelona as an old and as a modern town very thoroughly. I'm happy with you that everything came out alright!

We must have walked well over 100 miles while we were there, so we saw a lot. Public transportation is so convenient too. It was very easy to move around the city. There was just too much to take in, but I think we did very well for six days we were there. Hiking up Montjuic to the castle at the top was quite a journey. Must have been a good 2000-3000 feet up and a good distance, but we both were ready for the challenge. I'd love to go back again some day as I really did fall in love with the city. Ughhhh, Florida, home.

...Let's go'

Love is in the stars - love's heaven sent
Brush your lips and mine - taste my good intent
Lay it on real close, inside my crazy arms
Come on feel your Daddy's love, I won't do you no harm

How you feel inside - you are the enchanter
Take me on through the night - fantasy in the desert

Calm my raging fire - meld my love control
Coax me with your showers of love - feel my body roll

How you feel inside [etc repeated]

Love will seize the mind - its power at your command
Prisoner in your arms of love - captive in your hands

How you feel inside [etc repeated]

Oh Nirvana
I love you, love you, love you, love you

How you feel inside [etc repeated]

Oh Nirvana
I love you, love you, love you, love you

Holy Moses - mi amigo
Mystic biscuit - mind your lingo
Walk in circles - stand by truth
Watch out boys - she's after you
She's after you - she's gonna get you
Here she comes - watch out!
