Hi All, it's the Holidays and lots of drinking holiday cheer. This year let's save lives and keep families together.

Promote being a Designated driver.

Time to use social media. Please post on Facebook, Pinterest etc. Messages that promote Being A Designated Driver.

These can be pictures, videos, plain old text posts.
We all know teenagers experiment with drinking, post these things on all the pages of the teenagers you know.

Post them on your friends pages, acquaintances, just get the message out. Advertising and peer pressure does work.

Role Model
Other adults do notice what their peers are doing. When you show up at parties, let people know one of you is a designated driver. Make sure the designated driver does not drink alcohol or do any drugs. (Believe it or not some people consider smoking pot or having less than three alcoholic drinks being "sober" enough to drive).

When you get home the designated driver can have a few shots to catch up with the designated drinker. Then you can go do what adults usually do after a night of drinking when they get home... (argue ;)

Role Model to Kids
When you go out with your kids, let them know one person is the designated driver because while alcohol is fun, it is also dangerous to drive after drinking. Be sure the person drinking does not get S**t Faced drunk or just really drunk. Kids need to learn that having a drink does not mean getting drunk even when you have a designated driver.

So please, make up your own photos to post, use mine, find some, or just write messages, get the word out.

Designated Drivers are Holiday Heroes.

Hi All, whoever is really busy right now, say Jingle Bells.

Hi Sandi, will be working Christmas Eve and Christmas Day as that is on my regular schedule. Kind of disappointed. At least have all my shopping done. Today have to get my mail out.

Hi Mike, yes we really did have heavy sheets of ice sliding from roof tops and cars. Have never seen anything like that from here before.

Hi Briar, that would be a good one for Texting and Driving too. Scary. Good job. Can I copy and post to Roxies Facebook page?

Hi WTS and Bug, so glad to know you all are staying home to party. As long as no hot air balloons or drunken Yeti's show up on the roof, sounds like it will be a good New Year.

I go to a party on New Year's eve, have done for 10 years.... but as it is only next door I don't have to worry about driving home!

Hope the work week is over and you are beginning to enjoy your weekend.

How much time do you get off next week?

That's usually our MO, bug! Still fun, and no chance of problem with impaired drivers ;)

I think our local taxis offer some kind of special deal on New Year's but I'm not sure about any other time.

Still, we'll be home and I'll be having my little snort, all comfy in my jammies.

Traffic Deaths Down by a Third Over Last Year

If you are a tourist visiting here and you are heading back from the Volcanoes National Park to the resorts in Kona and Kohala be very wary of the oncoming traffic going southbound, particularly this time of year, especially at night!!

Your blog prompted me to recall a billboard I saw in the Portland area back in the 60s or 70s. I couldn't find anything like it on the web, so I came up with this instead.

It made an impression on me when I first saw it -- enough that I never forgot after all these years.

GG, great messages and graphics...I saw something on the news about Lewisville, TX recently. I think it was ice sheets flying off of buildings onto the streets below?

According to your weather station you are three degrees celsius less than I am! AND I am saying Brrr!

I saw this, which is pertinent to your blog, and I just liked the philosophy:)

Good Morning, it's chilly and clear this morning.

Hi Calpoppy, yeah those two are natural hams. I think they would like to be involved in anything that has people taking their pictures and cooing over them.

Roxie and Syd should be on the DD commercials!

Everyone behaves themselves at our cabin during the holidays and actually anytime. Though we all imbibe, we don't drink much at all.

Looks like we are having the same type of weather right now. Everyone is taking a nap but me, so here I am on the computer, LOL!

Good Morning, chilly and clear. The other day it was so foggy over night made for a spooky drive home from a friends B-Day party as it was Friday the 13th.

Hi Sandi, in the Coke vs Pepsi I am firmly entrenched on the Coke team. It even has better commercials.
A very Happy and Peaceful Gaudete Sunday to you as well.

Hi SP, we have the cab program here as well. Like you I am always the designated driver so a cab is not necessary. Then again on New Years Eve I prefer to stay home.

Hi Briar, yes the food supply chain is back in full force. We do have a stocked pantry here, but I like fresh veggies and fruit.
Must agree, we don't need no stinkin booze to have fun over Christmas. I can behave pretty silly without any help. He he.

Are you back to work today?

I presume you get some time off for good behaviour over Christmas:)

I hope this means that your local supermarket has been restocked and you can not only get to the store in one piece, but buy groceries once you get there.

My contribution to your theme:
You don't need beer
To make Christmas cheer.

Good message, gg (and Syd and Roxie)!
I think adult role models for other adults are really important. Too many seem to think they can only have fun if everyone is drinking and put pressure on those who are doing dd duty or just prefer not to drink for some reason.
Around here I've seen that they (the county?) have free taxi service for drunks who have no dd. I think it only operates on those nights when it's most needed (like New Year's Eve). Don't know any details, as I'm always the dd!

Quoting 5. Ylee:
I'm assuming that if you order a Pepsi at the bar, you will have to pay full price? Very shrewd marketing! :/

Here in the UK you very rarely find Pepsi in a bar. Most supermarkets stock more Coke Cola than Pepsi, as many drink the diet version, and prefer cola to Pepsi...me included.
Although once you add brandy to it, it all tastes the same!!! lol

Hi All, it has been drizzeling all day. Hopefully the temps stay above freezing and it washes away the ice remnants from our storm.
Got outside and did a very quick decorating of the front yard. If it doesn't get done now, it will be after Christmas before I get time again.

Hi Bug, the amazing thing is many young parents really have no idea how to role model these things to their own children. Goodness knows "reality TV" these days teaches very poor role modeling.

Hi WTS, I'm with you on not being a fan of sloppy drunks. Another pet peeve is hosts that seem to make it a point to get their guests very drunk. Everything in moderation except for comradery and laughter. Usually no one dies from having sore cheeks and belly over too much laughing.

Hi Sandi, that is a great program. Some of the bars do that here but that sounds like an all out campaign. After all, everything on wheels needs brakes. A designated driver keeps the party rolling without going over the cliff.

Hi Ylee, yes, that is their evil plan. Except once at a martini bar that charged me $9 for a coke that was mostly soda water. They didn't care about no stinkin designated drivers at their club.

This is a very timely blog!

I heard in the news the other day that over 8000 pubs have signed up to help keep the Christmas drinkers safe.

If you order a Coke Cola, at the bar, and announce you are the driver for the evening, you will get another drink, free!!

It is Coke Cola that are supporting this, and I think it is a great idea.

Hear hear, GG! Nice timely topic. There's a lot of distance between enjoying a drink and s**t faced and the latter is just not required.

Hi, GG.

Very smart thread and very smart advice. Kids do emulate adults, as well as their peers. If they have good examples to follow, regarding drinking, there's a good chance they'll be responsible drinkers, themselves.

I tend to do my tippling at home, BTW.
