What Did You get for Christmas?
Posted by: GardenGrrl, 5:59 PM GMT on December 19, 2012 +3
So right now there is not much to report about Texas weather. Winter in Texas is a land stuck between seasons. Some days it's warm. Some days it's winter. Some days it can be both. Currently we have drought. I'm only going to get excited about rain...okay maybe snow too. Who am kidding, snow is really cool in Texas (if it's not on a work day.)

No weather or gardening, let's talk about Christmas presents! Whadja Get? Feel free to talk about favorite presents from Holidays past as well. Time spent with loved ones, your first favorite toy, the things that made you happy.

This year Christmas came early. Was going to ask Santa for a fancy camera. Have been researching them and became fascinated with micro four thirds cameras. I wanted a small camera with a big zoom that could take even better pics than my trusty point n shoot. For ergonomics and stellar reviews I had been reading a lot about the Panasonic GH2.
It was billed as an amazing camcorder that also took good pictures. Hey, two for one.

So a few weeks ago I woke up thinking about this camera. Decided to find out just how much one would cost. Looked it up on Amazon and to my surprise this camera, the GH2, was the "Amazon Deal of the Day"...while supplies last. Thought about it all day. Getting a fancy camera is like getting married. You are pretty much stuck with only getting accessories designed for that camera. This is especially true with the Micro Four Thirds. From now on, all my lenses will come from Panasonic. When this camera breaks I will have to buy the same brand again.

It was fate though. I woke up dreaming about it. Then found the camera was half price and included a lense. It also came with $100 off each additional lense. One day only. So bought the 100-300mm zoom as well.

My big surprise is that the whole "just like a point n shoot with better features" thing is not true. This cameras automatic settings suck wind. Almost sent it back. Started playing with the manual and program features. Now, this camera has potential. I just need to learn more about shooting manual, aperature and program. Have learned that using manual focus rocks the world. With manual focus I am getting shots I could not get before.
Birds in brush and twigs confuse auto focus but not manual. Booya!
Liking this camera now.

So this is my early Christmas present. Have a feeling after a few more months of classes and learning, the GH2 will be (to me atleast), the best camera ever.

So whats your best present?

I got a radio controlled helicopter that is lots of fun. The instruction manual written in poorly translated "engrish" is as much fun as the 'copter.

Husband got one one~ written on each blade..

WARNING! if blade damage.don't be fly.otherwise it will create the human body or blame damage.

Good Morning, it's back to work so won't visit many blogs today.

Hi Sandi, Considering the types of materials used for manufacturing over there maybe they really did mean "Not used with water"
If anyone is wondering about Sandi's links she posted a easy to figure out comparison of mbars and inHg in in her blog.

Hi Sp, those are cute. I would wear them indoors with my brightest tye-dye shirt. Maybe outside gardening if I felt a need to worry the neighbors (he he)

Hi Wabit, Sweet deal! Do you feel like you have a movie theater in your house now? Although appliances are necessary, this was a whole lot more fun wasn't it.

Skye, after I read your
WARNING! if blade damage.don't be fly.otherwise it will create the human body or blame damage.

I had to go look at my rotors. The top ones have a circle with Chinese writing. The bottom ones say, and I had to get a magnifying glass to confirm this;
Warning: Keep you face and eyes away from the running to ots. (toots!?)

Hope your return to the Batcave has been a good one! I bought a grill cover with gift card I got for Christmas. Sometimes you have to be practical! :)

You could do a whole blog with "engrish"!

Someone needs to do a blog on fractured English translations. That helicopter would be front and center!

So I was reading the comments about your new super-duper radio-controlled helicopter and I said to myself, "I know I read about that around here somewhere. I sprayed hot tea on my keyboard when I read it. Where did I read it? Not here!" Then I remembered, it was on my own (previous) blog, just before I started a new one.

You must have dropped that little laugh-bomb off elsewhere in WUville, based on the comments, but in case anyone missed it, or had a memory lapse like I did:

Here are some Engrish excerpts from the toy helicopter manual.

It has "Super Wide Infrated Technology"
"Problem; Can no control. Intrared ray inductor have not point to helicopter."
"Forbid children ubder fourteen years to operate the product."
"If helicopter becomes damaged, deformation, please repaired in time."

and my personal favorite, the safety insructions: "When you adjust, assemibe and fly the helicopter. You must operate it according to the operation instruction strictly. Make sure that you finger or other parts of the body away from spinning parts."

Happy New Year!!!

Good morning.

It is hail to the Redskins morning. RG III has become the area's hero but also a respected person. He seems to be genuinely nice and likable, and so far clean behavior-wise. I can understand why he is liked at Baylor and Texas as well. Apparently the number one sports shirt that sold for Christmas was his number as a member of the Redskins team.
At this point it doesn't matter if we are able to keep going in the playoffs, for the first time in 13 years my region has something to be happy about. Considering that the Washington Post features the Redskins with story and photos, while the 'Cliff' is dangling by the side of the same page. Tired of politics as usual, happy for our Redskins!

Currier and Ives

We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives... not looking for flaws, but for potential.

Wishing you and yours a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!

Happy New Year, GG!

Got myself a new camera. It is another extended zoom, but they work well for me. Now I just need to learn how to work its manual settings.

Best wishes for 2013.

Hi there, have you about finished your week? I bet you are tired after working both Christmas and NewYear.

I am thinking of joining a camera club once I have completed the jury service at the end of the month.... I wonder if I shall have the nerve to go along! lol

Hi All, have been neglecting my own blog a bit.

Thanks all for the New Years greetings; Plapman, Prose, Skypony, Mass, Calpoppy (Wow your little grand cub is getting bigger and cuter), PalmettoBug, Shore, Sig, Juslivn, Sandi!

Okay, that's the quick-n-easy way to catch up. Really do appreciate you all stopping by.

May or may not have a new blog out by Saturday. Otherwise perhaps next week. Am doing some OT tomorrow and then the long week.

Chugging along at the blog porch.

Just stopping by to say howdy-do. You may have a shot at some of the frozen stuff again, yes? They're muttering about some sleet down this way, but north of Houston. If we get anything, it probably will just be drizzle/rain. That's ok by me!

Over-time and then a long week... girl, you must be mad! :-)

Hope you get some time off over the weekend, or you will be too tired to go another five days.
And I see you said snow is forecast for you - hope it isn't too much to cause travel chaos. I do love snow, to walk in and play in, but when you have to travel - no thanks!

Good morning GardenGrrl.
My old house is better insulated than I thought. With just the 2 1500 watt heaters going the temp was keep at 65F. That was cool to wake up to but bearable.
Ebjoy your day.

Hope the OT and long week in the bat cave treat you well. At least it'll give you more money to spend on fun stuff -- providing you're not too worn out to enjoy said fun stuff.
