Yes folks, me and my two spouses (lol) are the biggest baddest "Life's Not Fair Monopoly" players in the realm. I have the trophy to prove it :-D

Lifes Not Fair Monopoly is one of the funnest versions I've ever played. The Community Chest and Chance cards often come with a message saying you just got a new baby. Passing GO means you lose $10 for every plastic baby game piece you have. Free Parking has become Welfare and if you land on that you get money for each kid.

Anything pretty much goes in this game. You can "marry" another player and combine properties to build a dynasty. If the player leaves the table they are considered "dead" and you can take all the property and marry someone else. Don't go to the restroom during this game.

We all laughed our behinds off playing this.

I have to agree with Ylee. Not sure, but isn't "double-wide" another name for "tornado magnet"? Sure seems so most times when I see tornado damage on TV. Better not buy any lotto tickets -- you've used up your luck for this month. Doubly lucky that your new plants didn't get smushed, either.

Those pork chops sound good. I like butterfly chops, but rarely make them. Care to share the recipe, or is it a secret?

I'm really glad you guys escaped the mayhem today. I'd come home for a really late lunch and when I saw the radar, I couldn't believe it. Like you, I'd scanned the weather forecasts and was completely surprised by the blowup.

It may turn into a strange spring - I just hope the moisture keeps coming. As rain, if you please!

GG, I'm glad you're OK, but I wish that you'd find some beter shelter(I know, I know, I need to heed my own advice!). Mattresses in doublewides are not suitable for tornadoes!

Glad your plants are unscathed, although if you're like me, you used up all your luck in today's storms! :)

GG, so glad that you are ok and that no damage occurred. What nasty weather! I was not at home when the tornadoes struck and so I had no idea of what was going on in Texas until the evening news. I am truly happy that there are no reports of death due to the tornadoes.

Stay safe and have fun with your two spouses!

Thanks for checking :)

Toured the yard and bit of neighborhood. We look okay here. Even the new plants seem to have gone unscathe so I'm considering buying a lotto ticket while my luck is so good.

I'm so, so glad you haven't taken damage. I've been watching the Weather Channel off and on for the last three hours. It looked like some of that truly nasty stuff came awfully close to Lewisville. I hope all the bad stuff misses you and you get to have a nice dinner with no problems.

HI G/G!

I'm so glad you and yours weren't within the line of tornadoes that went through what appears to be the Dallas/Ft. Worth area or counties. I've been watching the aftermath on national cable and local tv news reports and the scenes are quite devastating.

Hope you can relax now and enjoy the aroma and taste of those apple cider pork chops!

Yes it has been a busy day. Just finished planting all my new plants into the garden and fertilizing the grass (in light rain).

Not long after the sirens started. Have the TV news on. The weather guy says he has not seen so many super-cells in the metroplex in his twenty years living here.

Lucked out. Baseball size hail to the near north and south of me. Only dime size with the occaisional quarter size here.

Syd and Roxy are out of their shelter kennels (and quite happy to be freed). It's time to make dinner. We are having cider porkchops and the house is going to smell sooooo good.

Should be just heavy rain and some more hail now. Got to run the drill; how fast can I kennel the critters, pile a mattress fort, and sweep important stuff into purse and burrow in. Lewisville hasn't signaled the "all clear" yet but I don't think I'll be knock on wood ducking for cover now.

So far so good. The wind changed from west to east last time while it was hailing. That's when I decided to bail. Syd and Roxy are in their smallest kennels and tucked under the "bunker". They are not happy.

Have TV on, radar etc. Will wiggle back into the bunker if it gets nasty again.

Hi GG! I wonder if Syd's aggressiveness gets more during the spring. I would think during mating season they would be a tad grumpy! I remember the African Grey parrot that was used in research. He knew words but not just the words but what they meant also. One day they had taken him down to look out the window and he saw a tree. He kept saying tree, tree! I felt sorry for him, they never let him go see the tree :((

One more day off for me! Planting a runnerless strawberry in the greenhouse called Loran. They will go nicely with my alpine strawberries. Lots of blueberries have set on my plants, it is so nice to have a greenhouse!

Your having a heat wave like Ylee is!!!!

Hi Prose, like the dogwood montage. When the red buds bloom and the dogwoods flower it is definitly spring.

Hi Shore, They do all kinds of Quinceanera colors around here but red is most certainly a unique one, especially for someone so shy.
Have to agree Trout Fishing in America is more fun than Shubert.

Hi, GG,

I'm like Sandi - so far behind I'm about to lap myself! No sense trying to catch up, except to say I loved the trout lilies. I came and looked at them a couple of times, and both times I got distracted by something else, and there I went, off down the path.

I was going to post a movement from Schubert's "Trout Quintet", but that seemed a little too-too, so I went for Trout Fishing in America. They had a song that was pretty apropos, so here's that.

And I love the Quinceanera photos. When I was in the Victoria area, there were celebrations galore, and I can't remember ever seeing anything except a white dress. I do like the red. Maybe the ties to the religious aspects are more pronounced down there - like white for first Communion. Anyway, it's a great time for the girls and their families.

I saw that note about the drug shortages. Out of curiosity I went to one of the sites that keeps tabs on that, and was amazed at some of the drugs on the list. There were several of them I recognized - more than several. That's a little unnerving. Vaccines, too - like for measles, mumps, rubella. Not good.

If the weather allows, I've got four ten hour days ahead of me, so I'm heading to my pillow. Hope your week is good - you're off now until Tuesday? Is that right? I haven't a clue. But have a good evening!

Hi Sp, that link is great. Almost makes me want to add knitting as one of my too many hobbies. Now all of WUville will be expecting a Tom Baker Dr. Who scarf for Christmas. Link ;-)

Hi BC, So happy to see you up and around. By the end of summer you will be dancing the Can Can. The photo shoot was fun. She really was not in to it at first but after awhile started to enjoy the attention. Such a shy kid. Glad there were not many people out when we did the shoot.

Checking back in after a long absence. I've missed your fun doings and adventures.

There's so much I could add to your rant about our wonderful for-profit wellness industry. I saw a news piece about phony "registered" pharmacies whose owners just buy up and hoard vital and expensive drugs just so they can later "wholesale" them out to the highest bidder. Think it was ABC doing the investigating, but don't remember for sure. FDA promised to check into it. Those are just the facts as I've (probably) misremembered them. But not gonna rant. It would take too long and just make me mad.

Very interesting about All-Con. It sounds like there was so much going on it would be tough just deciding which fun thing to do.

It looks like the lovely young woman in red got into the spirit of the Quinceanera photo shoot as the day progressed. Couldn't have anything to do with a sweet-and-crazy photographer, would it?

Good Morning it's 4something am, better known as up at the crack 'O doom. It's the long work week have five minutes to blog.

Hi Ylee, Guess they had to use the batcave funding to subsidize big oil or perhaps the pharmacutical companies... After being at the doctors office and hearing another patient talk about how she can't get a needed cancer treatment drug because of the rolling drug shortages I'm still feeling disgruntled. They have to use expensive new similar type drugs or bid high on the tried and true drugs which are in short supply. Last month this was going on with childrens leukemia drugs.
Okay rant finished.
Looks to be another beautiful day here. Saw a hummingbird and refreshed the feeder.

Wow, it's back to work tomorrow. What a great mini-vacation. Sooooo now have to do all my chores today before the work week starts.

Hi Prose, isn't it amazing what some people will spend on "parties" because it becomes a cultural norm. Weddings always make me choke because a young couple starting out could use that $10k on up to get a home, furniture etc. I've found that in most cases people that do small "home made" weddings stay together longer than the $$$ fancy weddings. I've been a "brides maid" at three of these and was soooo thankful they didn't want me to buy a use once $$ dress.

Hi Calpoppy, now that is the best "wedding natural disaster story" I've heard. Hope you didn't ruin your clothes.

Hi Ylee, apparently I'm blocked from government sites. LOL. Pulled up the cams and got the little red X's that you see a lot of.

Interesting (to me at least) pet observation. I bought a Sulpher Crested Cockatoo 10+ years ago when the pet magazines were saying they were great pets.
They are not pets. They fall into the catagory of exotics because they can be unpredictable and dangerous.

Syd has fits of needing to attack something... and have his way with it apparently. That's the part we were missing. We found out that if we put a fluffy stuffed animal at the bottom of his cage he will vent on that.
We will probably still get bit once in awhile if we don't pay attention to the signs, but he seems to be a calmer happier bird now.
Pass this on to anyone you know that has an aggressive parrot/cockatoo.

You gave a perfect description of the Quinceanera celebration, the coming of age of the young ladies with Latino roots.

True some are extremely lavish and resemble (and cost) more than a big wedding. But what a special day for the young lady and her family!

Blessings on the young lady and all of her family members.

I am glad that you are having fun with so many varied interesting activities. Wonderful.

Oh the Pinball Convention was so much fun! They have started to re-build some of the older machines using LED lights, better bumpers etc. Those tables are really great to play now.
Got to put my high score initials on the Apollo 13 machine. AND, got the thirteen multi-ball play on it twice! Big Fun!

Hi Ylee, no Bat Cave this weekend was off playing. Seems the CAT scan wasn't quite enough. Now they want to negotiate with my insurance to have a PET scan done. Piffle.

Hi SP, Oh yeah, the Quinceaneras are money pits. Her tiara was $200. The (just starting out)professional photographer wanted $500 and said he was giving them a deal. Glad they asked me to do it. We are going to make a "analog" photo album for them after they choose the pics they like best.

Oh she's beautiful, gg! Great pics, too :)
Almost any weekend around here one can see groups of teens all dressed up in amazing dresses and suits doing the Quinceanera thing. Really neat to see the boys in something other than baggy shorts and sloppy tees, LOL
Some parties are so elaborate that you wonder how they can pull it off.
A friend of mine was in the middle of planning and paying for his daughter's big day (it took over a year of planning and many years of saving) when I told him that, in the U.S., it's traditional when a woman gets married for the bride's parents to pay for the wedding. He sez, WHAT?! Well, then, she's marrying a Mexican, because this is IT!!!
Pretty funny :)
Glad you and she and the rest of the family had a good time! And looks like great weather, too :)

The Quinceanera.
Quinceanera means the fifteenth. Like the Jewish Bar/Bat Mitzvah which is a coming of age ceremony for teens, the Quinceanera is a celebration of a young girl becoming a young woman.

It is celebrated many ways across Latin America. Some families prefer somber and religious, some get sort of hoity toity with it and others more down to earth.

Thank goodness my in-laws are fun. I have become the designated photographer and one tradition of the Quinceanera is to go someplace scenic before the special birthday and take lots of pictures of the young princess in her Quinceanera dress.

Our young princess was not real thrilled with the idea of getting her hair done, putting on make-up and being seen in public but by the end of the day she was having a lot of fun with this.

Okay, so they are not Catholic, but another tradition of the Quinceanera involves paying tribute to Our Lady of Guadelupe and asking for blessings and guidance through the change from child to adult. So here is my niece with Our Lady (Who incidently is not just the patron saint of Mexico but all of North America).
May she be blessed with love, laughter and good sense.

What's a special day without an older brother doing what brothers do best.

Hey, looks like someone is starting to have fun.

Oh, they grow up so fast. Hug your kids today.

Good Morning. We had rain again. About 3/8ths. The ground is certainly saturated at the moment. Put in tree fertilizer sticks with hardly an effort. Usually have to pound them in.

It's a work day so will have to keep it brief.

Hi SP, that's right, Hollywood is full of characters costumed or otherwise.

Hi UncleMush, More like we are both really competitive. Rarely do we ever play against each other but together are a fierce team ;)

Hi Karen, Good to see you, oh yeah that was really fun. Sure wish we lived by Briarcraft, game night would be a blast. Have a feeling you and yours would be fun to hang out with too.

Hi Sandi, now that would have been a fun project. Too bad digital wasn't the norm back then. It really is hard to keep up with paper photos. Funny how styles really have not changed much. Same thing only a tich different.

Costumes made of totally recycled material, hmmmm.

Many years ago I was teaching an exam class on the history of costume. I planned and held a fashion show at the end of the year with clothes from1880 right up to the 1980's - which is where we were at the time.
I gave the class a task to come up with an idea for the clothes we would be wearing thirty years hence - ie 2010!

One of the girls cut a continuous thin strip from a black, plastic rubbish bag and then began to knit with it on large needles. She knitted a mini skirt and a waistcoat, which she then modelled in the fashion show.
I did have photos of all the girls, but over the time they have gone:(
Before the age of digital photos!

Another girl designed, but didn't make, a costume made from aluminium foil - Star Trek designers from the first series have a lot to answer for! The costumes they devised for the "imagined" future were so silly!! lol

Ugh, you've had quite a day. Happy you made it there and back okay and hopeful that the CAT scan turns up good. All the way to Monday is a long wait but I suppose that's the way of things. Meantime, hope you get a weather break and can enjoy the first few days of Spring. What the heck - enjoy them all! :)
