7 inches, still raining

The Big news in Texas is RAIN!
Here in North Texas it has been a bit dry, but over in the Hill Country it has been parched for waaaay too long. Am really glad to see rain there.

Currently in our little corner of Lewisville we have collected five and one half inches in the rain gauge since Friday. It's been raining off and on all night so there is a bit more. My journalistic integrity stops at wet hair right before bed so I am not going to run outside and see what is in the rain gauge.

I am very happy to report that inspite of the low clouds and grey skies the landscape has taken on an attractive new look this afternoon. With just three days of steady rain, the off-green kind of yellow pall has been replaced with a vibrant green.

So, will El Nino bring moisture back to the Hill Country and end their cursed drought? Let's hope so.

Walk in beauty.
Peace from the blog porch.

Good morning GG, we are enjoying a sunny and cool day, just 57 at the moment. The sad part is that last night was cold enough to kill the Impatients, I guess other plants will follow as it gets colder. I need to go out and get some ornamental cabbages to plant in my pots by the doorway. And maybe some pansies, they do well around here even in winter.
Wishing you a wonderful and restful Sunday.

Very funny on the iguana and the dog. The rattlesnake did come back and this time we had to do him in. I heard him rattling in the evening. I went out and one of my dogs was walking by him. He was pretty agitated, certainly not the nice sleepy snake he was before. LOL! We used to bag them and take them away but I swear they come right back. This is number 4 this year. Quick note on the coyote pups (there are two) I haven't seen them lately but I do hear them. It is to funny, very high pitched little voices. At least I know they are alive. Like you said before there are plenty of quail here to eat, and they are fat too.

Hi, we are still getting some rain so no playing in the garden today or long walks with the dog. She is not a big fan of being soaking wet thank goodness or taking her out to do her business when it's raining would become quite a chore.

Well it's back to work this evening so I hope everyone has a great week.

Hi Sandi, We were actually pretty full so I was happy it was raining and we didn't have to do the long dog walk.

Hi Baja, yeah, I need to get the camera out and get some more pictures of Roxie. Halloween is coming am going to have to dress her up :-)

Tonights meal will be beef stew poured generously over a Yorkshire pudding. Followed by a long walk with the dog.

LOL - Sunday dinner at my Gran's house meant we were too full to walk it off!!!

Hope you have worked out whether it is a "short or long" week!!! LOL

Good Morning, looks like the rain has finally let up. The grass looks very happy.

And, it is officially "Cooking Weather"!!!
Time to dust off the pans and start the oven.

Pulled some bargain meat that has been sitting in the freezer for awhile out and put it in the crockpot on low all day with beefy onion soup mix. It made a fabulous soup and stew stock which I bagged and froze for more meals.

Hi Shore, Sorry that rain didn't make it to your area. Atleast it finally got to the Hill Country. Great blog on Galveston you have out.

Hi Calpoppy, So glad you found your dog. That really is something that makes a persons heart sink until you find them okay again.
Animals have a way of disappearing and re-appearing as if by magic in my house. Once I lost a four foot iguana for several weeks and then he re-appeared in the linen closet on top of some towels I just took out of the dryer.
Another time a fifty pound dog just vanished. We came home looked everywhere. Then after we gave up and started talking about putting up missing dog posters he just re-appeared in the living room. My house is not That messy.
Rattle Snake on the Porch!!! Wow, you guys really do get an award for kindness. Can't think of many people around here that would just chase the big guy off with a garden hose.
Maybe you could get him into a box and take him far, far away. Stay safe.

Hi Tony, glad you are getting some of that warmth. It has finally cooled off enough around here to actually use the stove.

Hi Emmy, sooner or later Houston will get the rain...in spades usually it seems. Liked your Queen knickers post in Sandi's blog.

Hi Sandi, yes we finally recieved enough to close the ground cracks. For awhile even after watering with the sprinkler the ground was baked so dry and hard that I couldn't get Roxies tie out stake into the ground. May as well tried to drive it into the pavement.

Have a great day all!

Thanks for the warmer weather. Is there 2 much rain yet?
I'd prefer the above normal temps in january but I won't complain. Keep sending the heat and I'll keep the faucet turned on.
Have a good day

You guys needed the rain, glad you got it. Now please send some our way, the fire is 96% contained almost there. We panicked a little, well okay a lot yesterday. We went in to town for a bit came back and couldn't find one of our dogs. She is pretty crippled and usually is right here when we get home. We thought she might have gotten somewhere and fell down and couldn't get back up. We have a lot of land to search plus everything else. After over a hour of searching, she found us. Hugs first then I told her never do that again!! Where ever she was she is not telling us. We had a rattlesnake on our patio again. He was sound asleep wrapped up like a ball, so we let sleeping snakes lie. We washed him off the patio when he woke up, sorta rude but we really did want him gone. Have a great week GG!

Oh. My. Gosh.

I have rain envy. Not only that, I'm still really hacked off. One of my friends with an honest-to-goodness weather station thingie and all the accessories tells me we got .03 inches over four days.

They kept saying "It's coming! Get Prepared!" I wanted long, rainy days in the worst way and we got nothing. Now, mind you - I'm happy as can be for the folks who did get it. The rest of the state needed it worse, so that's ok.

Guess I'll just go to work and wait for the next chance, which isn't even on the horizon yet! Splash in a puddle for me!

Okay, the dog insisted it was time to go out.
Now have wet feet, damp hair and a happy dog.

Checked the rain gauge and with the new addition, now have seven inches and rising for rain total this weekend.
