A few hours combined with a wind change make a difference in the weather, a slight draft from the west has cleared the fog, sun and clouds the order of the morning. Temps low double digits to rise a few degrees and sun to remain. Similar conditions for remainder of the week.

Members of Council meeting with Provincial reps dealing with the proposed downgrading of local ferry service early next week. Indications remain they are determined to address so called "inefficiencies" in the system by reducing the service. The only positive in this exercise is the fact both parties are at the same table talking about consequences of such a move by the government.

Local herring news remains quiet, seiners have been to the Banks with mixed results.

Dear Rob:

I hope that something 'good' comes out of this governmental meeting. I have heard so many people - at the store - and otherwise, saying 'we wanted to go to Grand Manan this year but with the downgrade in ferry service and apparently, I think, you have to make reservations now - and everything else - someplace to stay at a reasonable rate, etc., I might just go to Deer Isl. or beyond. I have tried to reassure everyone that the decision has not been made yet, and have passed out the time schedule and number for the ferry, but it is taking A LOT of convincing. Really, can't blame people. They don't want to spend half their vacation trying to get on a ferry and it is getting extremely difficult to get a place to stay that is not $150.00 per night. Arg. So frustrating.

So, you go!!!!! And please reiterate the above. I love Grand Manan and in a pinch, I can stay with friends, but what about the other people who bring the cash flow.

Good luck.

Word. Chunks.
