I live in Wisconsin, and I am waiting for the first blizzard of the year.
Good blizzards around here can have well-defined circulation, high winds, and/or thundersnow with them.
I know what needs to come in play for a powerful Wisconsin blizzard.
First I need the jet stream to take a route across the plains to the lakes.
Second, I need a strong, southernly wind from the Gulf.
Third, I need a low to come out of the rockies and develop into a strong cyclone in the planes.
Then, I need the Jet Stream to carry it Northwest and deliver it here.
And for some extra juice, the blizzard may feed off of moisture from the lakes.
When I get it I will post you about it.

I need it so bad!
My location is part of the Milwaukee NW CWA.
I'm with you on the snow pack/moisture this winter. It has been so horribly dry, something I've never seen in WI. Was saddened to see so many lakes in Vilas Co that are either ridiculously low or completely dried up!
BAROCLINIC ZONE TO REMAIN IN AREA SUNDAY AND MONDAY. ALOT OF
UNCERTAINTY REGARDING STRENGTH AND TIMING...HOWEVER BOTH GFS AND
ECMWF SHOWING STRONGER SHORT WAVE GETTING EJECTED FROM UPSTREAM LONG
WAVE TROUGH INTO THE UPPER MIDWEST/GREAT LAKES SOMETIME IN THE
SUNDAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT TIME PERIOD. WITH SLIGHTLY COLDER AIR
IN PLACE...GREATER POTENTIAL FOR A RAIN/SNOW MIX OR MAINLY SNOW IN
PORTIONS OF CWA DURING THIS PERIOD. THIS WILL BEAR WATCHING AS
ACCUMULATING SNOW WILL BE MORE LIKELY CONSIDERING THE POTENTIAL
STRENGTH OF THIS SYSTEM...ESPECIALLY NORTHWEST CWA.
This looks like decent potential.
