Since there is quite a few blogs going now on Global warming, I am going to start focusing on the new technology to break us away from fossil fuel use in this country. There are many other reasons than GW why we as a nation should be really focusing on making the switch!!

"There are so many arguments proving & disputing global warming that people can't seem to agree completly on it. But for all the preperations that we make for hurricanes & other disasters, what do we have to lose if we prepare for global warming as if the worst might come true?
The answer is pure common sense. We should try to eliminate the variables that cause global warming instead of just arguing about it. It's like a hurricane- if we prepare for the worst, it can only save lives & money. If it does not come, no one will have been hurt & we may even have a healthier Earth."

A SOLAR GRAND PLAN!!!!

"The greatest obstacle to implementing a renewable U.S. energy system is not technology or money, however. It is the lack of public awareness that solar power is a practical alternative—and one that can fuel transportation as well. Forward-looking thinkers should try to inspire U.S. citizens, and their political and scientific leaders, about solar power’s incredible potential. Once Americans realize that potential, we believe the desire for energy self-sufficiency and the need to reduce carbon dioxide emissions will prompt them to adopt a national solar plan."

Radio Show I recommend EVERYONE to listen to:
Rifkin has been influential in shaping public policy in the United States and around the world. He has testified before numerous congressional committees and has had consistent success in litigation to ensure responsible government policies on a variety of environmental, scientific and technology related issues. The National Journal named Rifkin as one of 150 people in the U.S. that have the most influence in shaping federal government policy.

These are just a prelude to my "TUNNEL" idea fish. I see they were smart enough to place them in a shroud to increase velocity across the turbine blading. If they placed them in a larger tunnel they would get more electrical output when placed in the venturi section of the tunnel. Now all they need is a traveling screen to filter out any life forms.

I really like the sound of these. That river is super long & there has to be alot of places for these to be implemented.

Fish,

I watched this whole game. In fact, it was the first game I had watched after the lockout 2 seasons ago. The whole game was good, then with the shootout...WOW.

That move that Malik made I could watch over and over. I dunno why but I decided to do a youtube search for that shootout and there it was. I dunno if you had seen it before, but it's #1 in my book.

A Shift in the Debate Over Global Warming

Sully & I have spoken of this so many times. We agree that the emissions-capping is not the way to go. The new green technology is the way!! You can cap all you want & play trading games with the carbon credits but, in the end it is STILL going into the atmosphere. I have said it over & over & presidential candidates hint of it & many articles say it. We need a serious inititive in this country. Whatever u want to call it. A Manhattan project, Moonshot
type of effort where ALOT of focus is put into it. I keep saying over & over, in my opinion solar is the one with the most potential!
THE TECHNOLOGY IS HERE, THE TIME IS NOW!!!!

There was some talk about using windmills in this area, residents said no - did not want in their backyard...lol...but a big ole nuclear power plant is ok??

Why would anybody object to harnessing the wind that Florida so generously supplies, it would save money and natural resources AND while I am at it - whatever happened to solar power - my goodness the whole state of Florida should be powered via solar!!

What would you ask Big Oil?

"Under the backdrop of record gas prices and record profits, Congress is set to grill executives Tuesday from the world's five biggest oil companies."

"Lawmakers are expected to focus their questions on why the cash-rich industry needs $18 billion in tax breaks over ten years with some in Congress looking to take them away and use them to subsidize renewable energy projects"

LOL This should be interesting, Stay tuned....

Ohhhhhh, THOSE lights.... CHECK!!!!!! lol

Yea it was an awesome day. A grand-Prix style race, a concert headlining Three Doors Down & of course the highlight, the IRL season opener!
Historical race cause it is the 1st race in which the 2 open wheel series have gotten back together since splitting after the 1995 season. Awesome race & Three Doors Down put on a really really good show.

I was at the IRL season opener at Homestead Motor Speedway. The start of the race happened to coincide with the lights out for Earth Hour. LOL don't think they would turn off the lights considering the cars are reaching over 200 mph!

Lights Out for Earth Hour!
March 29 8:00pm (local time)

Earth Hour US - Earth Hour 2008
On March 29, 2008 at 8 p.m., join millions of people around the world in making a statement about climate change by turning off your lights for Earth Hour, an event created by the World Wildlife Fund...
SkyandTelescope.com - Homepage News - Lights Out, Everyone!
... simply turn off unnecessary lights (particularly outdoor lights) in your home or business from 8 to 9 p.m. on March 29th.

That small effort is more than just symbolic -- it will achieve a small but real saving in electricity and, in turn, the coal or oil that's likely being burned to create it. And the simple act of identifying a light to turn off might convince you that it didn't need to be on in the first place, or at least that it doesn't need to be on all night long...

Thanks for posting that other link Fsh. Good additional info there:
... the Luxim bulbs are roughly the same efficiency as high pressure sodium lamps (the yellow-tinged ones that are often used for streetlights.) The big advantage here is that they produce a more natural spectrum of light, which can increase safety.

It also means that Luxim bulbs could find their way into indoor lighting, something that's not possible with high-pressure sodium's ugly yellow light. But it's going to be a race between this new technology and white LEDs to see who can get cheap, highly-efficient lights to produce attractive white light in a light-bulb sized package first.
Hey, maybe they'll even be available by the time your next CFL needs replacement.

THANX Cal,
Really good find there my friend!! I saw an article on this the other day BUT, they did not describe them that way. Seeing the difference between these bulbs & the high-pressure sodium streetlights was AMAZING to say the least! Sure seems like these bulbs are where we should be heading to.

BTW.... This is the article that I read about them..
