The Eagle Has Landed...err...Lifted Off! (Pamshubby)
Planned out another trip to the landfill during a good day. The weather was cold, crisp and the trees had a couple hundred eagles in them. This is the best part of getting rid of teh trash in the winter hehehe.
The Eagle Has Landed...err...Lifted Off!
Lunch (KVAWARRE2P)
This young Red tail was hunting the field today. He caught two mice while I was there and he didn't mind me being so close. I got to within 20 feet of him but I didn't want to try to get any closer.

Orange-crowned warbler (laumakani)
The orange-crowned warbler winters in the southeast and Mexico where it prefers weedy and brushy habitats including gardens. It enjoys suet feeders.

Flicker in Storm (w33zel)
This female flicker was smart enough to realize suet was falling onto her chest and and used her self made serving dish to collect and lick the suet off. She's a heavy favorite for attending Miss Manners etiquette classes, don't you think? Notice her tongue.

Cackling. . . (Feather3)
. . . Canada Goose. From its appearance, I think it's a molting first year bird. . .it was grazing the grasses of the headlands near Virgin Creek today. . .seemed to favor a foot, but was otherwise healthy enough to fly. When it did, it gave out the distinctive 'cackling' high-pitched honk these geese (a *much* smaller subrace of the Canada Goose) are named for.
Cackling. . .
Soaking up some rays (foleyfotos)
This adult bald eagle was very content to let us take his picture then stretched out his wings for several minutes to get some sun. This was next to the Clark Bridge across the MIssissippi River from ALton IL, a favorite winter nesting area for bald eagles.

Cactus Wren (Zonie)
It was nearly 78 degrees in Tucson today. Many birds and animals were out enjoying the day with the humans. I often wonder how these birds can sit on these cactus without getting hurt.

Thanks Feather! The RTH's are quite common around here.I usually take the scenic route home from work out in the farm lands and see about 10X as many as I shoot. They get spooked easily.I need to have someone go with me and drive so I can concentrate on shooting only!LOL! I have to be quick because they usually take-off the second I start to slow down. The one I posted today I got VERY close to.I have a neighbor who just told me he catches(cage, trap door) the chipmunks in his yard and lets them out where I saw this hawk.He said they go after them everytime! It's a little sad but I think I'll go sometime with him!Have a great day! Thanks for your compliments.

Hi Feather..Beautiful collection so far.
I am always impressed with the quality of
the photographs..how close-up and detailed
they are. I'm going to have to give it a
try soon. Even though the eagles and hawks
are impressive, the one that I really loved
was the "California Quail" by jhiker. It's
just a wonderful photo.
I love this blog. It's one I come to when I
have a little more time to spend on each photo.
Thank you for asembling them for us.

ColoradoKat,

Thank you for your compliments on both the blog and my personal photography. I personally enjoy uncle mush's blog because he shows us photos from several years rather than just what's current or even a few weeks or so old; it is nice to see so many perspectives displayed for all to enjoy :)

This Tri Colored Heron was upset, trying to look aggressive. It was comical. Problem was he was very far away and I could not see just what he was doing at all times. So, I shot at 300 focal length and left the lens on automatic and the camera also. I was not sure how it would turn out until I got home and saw it. This young bird is like some young humans that try to be "bigger" than they are. Have a good one and thanks for looking at this one!
