OK. . .get me your birds, folks. Let's get another NICE collection of birds going for February!

RED TAIL LOOKS LONELY IN THE RAIN THIS MORNING
The Eagle Has Landed...err...Lifted Off! (
Pamshubby)
Planned out another trip to the landfill during a good day. The weather was cold, crisp and the trees had a couple hundred eagles in them. This is the best part of getting rid of teh trash in the winter hehehe.
This young Red tail was hunting the field today. He caught two mice while I was there and he didn't mind me being so close. I got to within 20 feet of him but I didn't want to try to get any closer.
This mornings sun illuminated this merganser hen.
what amazing feet for a waterbird!
I believe there was something dead in the area, as there were 5 eagles and 4 ravens close by. As I was leaving, the magpies started showing up.
Photographed at the Tenn-Tom Waterway in Columbus, MS. It serenaded me for several minutes while I photographed it!
Long-tailed Tit - Aegithalos caudatus (
bpwh)
Hanging out, looking for a girlfriend ;)
The orange-crowned warbler winters in the southeast and Mexico where it prefers weedy and brushy habitats including gardens. It enjoys suet feeders.
This female flicker was smart enough to realize suet was falling onto her chest and and used her self made serving dish to collect and lick the suet off. She's a heavy favorite for attending Miss Manners etiquette classes, don't you think?
Notice her tongue.
You!! Are My Next Meal!!! A new look at a Hawk comming at you.. Glad I'm not a Squirrel!!
This guy was just singing up a storm...I guess he is glad that the snow storm is done. We got 20 inches.
Lesser because of his size -- 4½ inches -- but his vibrant color is definitely more. At Coyote Hills today, in the butterfly garden ;)
A young Golden-crowned Sparrow, water drops from his bath clinging to his feathers. At Coyote Hills today, in the butterfly garden ;)
the day the kingfisher came a landing... (

...on my tv antenna (on a warm and bright Friday morning)
the closer i get to you... (

...just another friendly barn swallow that allows me a step closer for a better shot
Hunting along Alameda Creek today ;)
This is quite a small hawk that's been frequenting the backyard. Almost half the size of our "regular" visitors.
Sitting Pretty!! Just before he flew.
. . . Canada Goose. From its appearance, I think it's a molting first year bird. . .it was grazing the grasses of the headlands near Virgin Creek today. . .seemed to favor a foot, but was otherwise healthy enough to fly. When it did, it gave out the distinctive 'cackling' high-pitched honk these geese (a *much* smaller subrace of the Canada Goose) are named for.
This adult bald eagle was very content to let us take his picture then stretched out his wings for several minutes to get some sun. This was next to the Clark Bridge across the MIssissippi River from ALton IL, a favorite winter nesting area for bald eagles.
Update: Thank you Feather3 for the ID. A juvenile male Sharp-shinned or Cooper's Hawks.
THIS GUY IS A REGULAR VISITER. PEANUTS DON'T GET HIS
ATTENTION.
... clearly good friends ;)
Everyone knows eagles can fly. Ask any one of them, that flyin' thang is EEEEZeee! But an eagle that can dance? Now, tharz sumpin' special! It's called "The Eagle Stomp," you pick yore left claw up and stomp it down, pick yore right claw upand shake it all around ... doin' the eagle stomp ...
!!
It was nearly 78 degrees in Tucson today. Many birds and animals were out enjoying the day with the humans. I often wonder how these birds can sit on these cactus without getting hurt.
Treasure one sees when one looks up in the trees ;)
Saw this interesting looking bird looking for lunch in a lagoon of off the ocean. ISO 200 F8 and shutter speed 1/512 sec.
The birds are so confused with all the trees covered in ice and a lot of trees down on the ground. I have been feeding them on the ground as all the feeders are iced over.
Love Song By The Eagles: This is part 3: I was very lucky to be in the right spot and the right moment!!!!!!
This crow has been coming to the bird feeders for the past 4 days...it is very strange.
Mama stands over her baby with her wings spread as if to protect her baby.
My Valentine thrill - a visit from the little bluebird couple.
American avocets (Recurvirostra americana) (
Tsurai)
These highly migratory birds make their living swiping those upcurved bills sideways through the thin mud in marshy areas, snapping up aquatic invertebrates. These were spending the winter at the Salton Sea.
He almost looked like someone impatiently stamping his foot... giving me the impression he didn't want me pointing that camera thingie at him ;)

There is nothing like the beautiful pink of the roseatte spoonbill
Literally feet away from my feet
Black-Capped Chickadee (
HOLLY)
Took this out the window of my house in northern MI.
I guess this is my last Texas cardinal for a year. Leaving TX for the north! And we are using WU to plan our trip north.. we type in towns we go through and check the weather for Mon, Tue and Wed, and it looks like we can make it to WI between blizzards and ice.
Wetland in South Florida, nice pose.
Female Anna's Humming Bird refueling at the feeder. Look at her fuzzy bottom feathers at the top of her legs. This is a sure sign she is either sitting on eggs or feeding babies. Perhaps in about three weeks I'll have some photos of the little Hummers.
At times likes this, I wish I had a Canon EF 600mm f/4.0 L IS USM lens. Donations gladly accepted. *grin*
Ruby-crowned kinglet with a mean look,,,, (
Vanana)
but I bet you would look mean, too, if you were sitting on those thorns!
Ready for the wedding (

Godwits make it a mixed flock as they land in the mudflat near the grayish willets.
This picture was taken at John Taylor Park.
How do you like the metalic look? Humming bird.
Just your average Crow head on.
On a stump at Coyote Hills, in the rain.

Or Cormorants if you prefer...
....there is a great woman.
Male and Female Purple Finch.
Shot with 12mm extension tube on a 400mm lens.
Male, in a salt pond at Coyote Hills, San Francisco Bay.
Not much of a "night" owl.
Right in my yard in broad daylight.
Loggerhead Shrike aka Butcher Bird because it sometimes impales its prey on thorns or barbed wire. He is using the barbed wire on this grub.
I stood outside less than five feet from the feeders today for a while and got some pictures of the Redpolls as they came by in waves LOL.
This is a green heron. People were feeding fish and he stole the bread. He doesn't eat the bread but rather hangs it over the edge of the water to attract fish. Green herons are known for their creative fishing techniques.
The Baby Blue Heron is 4 weeks old today. The baby still only has nubs for wings and can't fly although the baby is getting very tall. Mama Heron stretches her wings over the baby.
He didn't give a hoot that I was taking his picture.
of the Northern Pintail - a male in full adult breeding plumage flies overhead at Virgin Creek this afternoon.
...or in today's economy, maybe he's a borrowing owl -- his burrow did belong to a ground squirrel once! ;)
Got her less than five feet from me.
A pair of mallards flying around the lake.
Tundra Swans winter in the Willamette valley, they are fun to watch with their long bending necks, large wingspan and comical interactions. Watching them in flight is rather spectacular also.
You put your left foot in, you put your left foot out.... (

Do the Hokie-Pokie.
Took this shot at Shell beach of thisSnowy White (Egretta thula) yesterday
Loggerhead Shrike up close.
Photographed by a salt pond at San Francisco Bay, adjoining Coyote Hills.
Some of the birds that hang out near the shore of Santa Rosa Sound, not too far off Hwy. 98 in Fort Walton Beach.
Now this would make any bird of a feather grouchy. He just needed a little bit of hair gel against the wind me thinks hehehehe. A hard picture to get with an overcast day and a white bird head, had me working for it LOL.
Shutter Speed 1/1000
Aperture Value F11.0
ISO Speed 640
Lens EF70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM
Focal Length 270.0 mm
this Egret was fishing in the shallow water.
Snowy White (Egretta thula)
He let me get really close to him ;)
Seems it's already Spring at Coytote Hills... the Tree Swallows have returned, seeking mates and nesting sites.
Wish this would happen every day. It is nice to be back in snow country and get cardinal photos in snow
Now This Is A Bald Eagle!! Any Questions!!!
A picture like this only comes around Once every 4 Years!!! PS: Because it is Leap Year taken on the 29th Of Feb.2008
Nuttall's Woodpecker female (
actual)
... finding all kinds of goodies to eat in a tree along the Alameda Creek trail today.
Just outside my kitchen window. Wish they would hold still
Love the pattern on his wings

Stop by my blog and check out post number 227. I would like to get you input on what I have posted. Thank you.
Sorry I don't respond to all the messages in both my inboxes; I am extremely busy here at home, dealing with some personal stuff. . .but I do get on here. . .I want to keep adding birds before February flies out the window with the winter weather :)

I am always impressed with the quality of
the photographs..how close-up and detailed
they are. I'm going to have to give it a
try soon. Even though the eagles and hawks
are impressive, the one that I really loved
was the "California Quail" by jhiker. It's
just a wonderful photo.
I love this blog. It's one I come to when I
have a little more time to spend on each photo.
Thank you for asembling them for us.
I hope you have a wonderful Valentine's Day!

# 1 This blog is amazing and I LOVE coming here. The photographers are SO good!!!! I
am constantly amazed by the quality of these
photos.
# 2 I saw two more of your own photos on
unclemush's blog, "Blue eyes by the sea" and
"Storm Coming" and they are SO good. You just
get better and better. I envy that you have
those beautiful places close enough to see
without getting in a plane or driving for
days. Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you for your compliments on both the blog and my personal photography. I personally enjoy uncle mush's blog because he shows us photos from several years rather than just what's current or even a few weeks or so old; it is nice to see so many perspectives displayed for all to enjoy :)
