Hurricane Irene Update 2

By: EvanKisseloff, 12:43 AM GMT on August 26, 2011

Hurricane Irene is definitely eyeing a direct hit in the New York Metro. The 8 PM models have been run and Long Island seems to be the winner. My guess is that we will see hurricane watches issued for Long Island and New York City by tomorrow morning. The Nassau County Executive is urging everyone SOUTH OF SUNRISE HIGHWAY (Route 27) to begin evacuating NOW. For those of you in the path of Irene like myself, be safe!

Hurricane Irene Update 1

By: EvanKisseloff, 6:46 PM GMT on August 25, 2011

Hurricane Irene has a shot at being the first hurricane to make a direct hit in the New York Area since Hurricane Gloria in 1985. Hurricane Floyd hit the area in 1999 as a Tropical Storm and Hurricane Earl ended up missing New York pretty much entirely. Now is the time to make preparations for the potential direct hit if you live in New York City, Long Island, and New England as well. Will try to post again around 5.

New York City expects 1-3 inches as well as the surrounding areas including Long Island, Northern New Jersey, and into the Hudson Valley. Hopefully this is the last dose of winter we have until the next season!

The expected activation is December 21, 2010 unless a winter storm occurs before that date. All information...
