This was an amazing event.

I saw indications on GFS that this was possible about a week before.

48 hours before it hit, the local Jersey Met Office issued a RED Weather Warning - the first they had issued since the Great Storm of October 1987 (major wind event that also hit Southern UK).

The snow started to fall around 4am on Monday 11 March - it continued for the next 33 hours solid with half a meter of snow falling.

Winds were Severe Gale Force during most of the time causing very severe drifting. The outlying areas of Jersey were cut off with 10-12 foot snow drifts.

Many homes lost power, lots of trees blown down due to the wind and weight of snow. Wind Chill was as low as -10c!!!

The island grinded to a halt. Certainly the most severe winter weather I have ever experienced in my life. It was very surreal to experience it here in Jersey - reported as the warmest place in the UK!

Amazing as it sounds, it looks like we are about to get more snow on a nasty NE/ E - a true Beast from the East - again! This will make it the 3rd time in 2013 that we have had snow - a VERY rare occurence for this little island.

Updates and pix will follow.
