Good morning,

I’ve been told several times recently that I only update my blog when bad weather is approaching. So, with quiet weather, including milder temperatures, ahead, along with the May long weekend, I figured this was a good opportunity to pass along some good news.

After a system brought quite a bit ice to the Avalon Sunday evening, an area of high pressure to the west will maintain fair skies across Newfoundland through Wednesday; however, winds out of the north will bring cool, below seasonal, temperatures through mid-week. By Thursday, the high shifts southeastward, over the Grand Banks, allowing winds to become southwesterly and bringing milder, above normal, temperatures to many parts of the Island. For the most part, high pressure remains east of the Island through the long weekend; however, the high is expected to move slowly to the north through the weekend, allowing winds to shift from a more favourable southwesterly direction, to the southeast and east. This wind shift will bring cooler temperatures to Eastern Newfoundland for the second half of the long weekend, along with coastal fog and occasional drizzle. Elsewhere on the Island, much of Central and Western Newfoundland will see fair skies and temperatures into the low 20’s for most, if not all, of the long weekend. A quick look at what is expected for the long weekend in Newfoundland is below.

Newfoundland Forecast for the May Long Weekend
Friday: Sun and cloud with a chance of showers (mainly on the West Coast and Northern Peninsula). Low plus 2 to 4. High 10 on the coast to 18 inland, except 22 for inland sections of Central/Western Newfoundland.
Saturday: Sun and cloud. Low plus 4 to 8. High 12 on the coast to 18 inland, except 22 for inland sections of Central/Western Newfoundland.
Sunday: Sun and cloud, except mostly cloudy with occasional drizzle and fog patches in Eastern Newfoundland. Low plus 5 to 8. High 8 on the coast to 12 inland on the Avalon; elsewhere 10 on the coast to 20 inland.
Monday: Sun and cloud, except cloudy with occasional drizzle and fog patches in Eastern Newfoundland. Low plus 4 to 7. High 7 on the coast to 11 inland on the Avalon; elsewhere 10 on the coast to 18 inland.
