Hello fellow shutterbugs from maine. Thought I would start a new blog with photographs of JUST Maine locations BUT you do not have to be a maine resident to post a photo from Maine here. It just has to be a photo of someplace here in Maine. I am going to post a few of my favoriates from other folks as well as a few of mine and of my son Rocket11's photos. Please add your photos of Maine here as well. Looking forward to your photos. Mike in maine

Maine Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory (foxinsane)
Open to pedestrians today, the new Narrows bridge is the first and only cable-stay bridge in Maine. It is also the only bridge with an observatory in North and South America, one of only three such bridges in the entire world. Not sure what is going to happen to the older bridge.

The Best Lightning Show Period. (SkyLazaria)
This large thunderstorm approached York, Maine from the northwest. I saw the lightning and hot-footed it to the Nubble Lighthouse. When I arrived, the storm was maybe a mile or two away. Ironically, my best friend was standing next to the lobster house he works at (he just got off of work. This place is a restaurant/ice cream stand) and he was just staring at the lightning. It downpoured. The wind howled, making not only the flag, but the flagpole sway. Lightning was everywhere, in huge, thunderous bolts. This bolt came down as the storm started to head offshore. It looked a bit overexposed at the time, but every time I look at it, it's better and better. 8.1.05 at 10:49 PM. 70

Boltage 2 (SkyLazaria)
This picture was the last of this trip to Portsmouth. Same place as the previous, but the bright bolt you see in the upper left hand corner was all I saw. It landed cloud-to-ground JUST across the river in Kittery, Maine. I saw that and I packed my things and left to the haven of my car parked about fifty feet away, getting soaked in the process. 11:07 PM EDT 73

"Footprints in the Sand"

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was
walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the
sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he
noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one
belonging to him, and the other to the Lord. When
the last scene of his life flashed before him, he
looked back at the footprints in the sand. He
noticed that many times along the path of his life
there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed
that it happened at the very lowest and saddest
times in his life. This really bothered him and he
questioned the Lord about it. "Lord, You said that
once I decided to follow you, You'd walk with me all
the way. But I have noticed that during the most
troublesome times in my life, there is only one set
of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed
you most you would leave me." The Lord replied,
"My son, My precious child, I love you and I would
never leave you. During your times of trial and
suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it
was then that I Carried You."

Wow Mike - the photos you've posted from Maine are just amazing! If I ever get over the joy of having my grandsons, I might choose a few of these for desktop photos! Right now Ian and Evan are ALWAYS on my desktop..... but......... as I sit here thinking, next year when I'm back in the media center, I will have 18 computers that will need to be set. I generally go with a theme - fall in fall, winter in winter - you see the pattern!

I'll have to get your advice next fall when I go back there. Maybe you'll have a Fall Colors blog up and make it real easy for me!

When I worked in the media center the last two years, I always set the desktop photos to ones from Wunderground. You probably wouldn't be too surprised by the comments I received. As you are well aware, we have some fabulous photographers on this site-two being you and your son!
