pittsburghnurse - not knowing the smartphone it is hard to know what you did and how to correct the issue. My recommendation is to go online and type in what you did. There should be an answer somewhere in the search.

What a brisk and chilly afternoon.

Dr. Masters predicting a modest cold breakout around Feb 15. We'll see what happens. I'm hoping this mild winter doesn't trigger colder weather for the entire spring.

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHA you guys have to see this. I got this WunderMail from a user named 'IvanJackinogh":

Palmyra, it shouldn't be any wonder how long it has been for Phil since the last time he has gotten lucky. The question should be directed toward you, my friend.

Mail was titled "Hi Pumpkin".

Now what to do?

A) I flame/troll with the best of them. My stuff is legendary and there's reasons I've been banned from crackuweather's forums and suspended from Wunderblog (1 day ban) in the past. I could dig deep and say things that would make this child cry in living color and publish this via Wunderblog (my own as to avoid making Blizz's life hell) and see what this person's got in trade...

B) Take the high road.

I like option A, but it's probably not worth my time. So be on the lookout for e-mails from this user. Their blog is banned so I can only imagine what they may have said/done to earn that fate.

Well, having just looked at the radar, I'm not going to complain anymore about how little snow we're getting today. Apparently, the snow over and around Lake Champlain is the only show in town today.

Six more weeks of Winter, says Phil
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/02/punxsuta wney-phil-2012-winter_n_1249355.html

Aw, I didn't know the Inner Circle decides in advance what the prediction will be. How dumb is that?
I mean, we have meteorologists for that. Besides, that is not the original tradition, so it doesn't count!

As for me, I'm with Pardon Me Pete (thanks RaspberryPatch!), predicting an early Spring because it was snowing* here this morning and no one saw any shadows.

*I hasten to add: just a very slowly falling dusting.

42-43F here.

We're slowly getting some grass back, as the thin snow cover recedes.

I'm super excited about tomorrow! Every year on Candlemas (aka Groundhog Day), I hand-dip candles, just as I used to do with my children back in our home schooling days. I take a personal holiday for the purpose and always check in with the groundhog(s) and nearly always watch the movie Groundhog Day. This week also marks the birthday of Snowflake Bentley, our town's most famous citizen. So this is my little Winter Festival time. It's a good thing I can do most of it without snow.

Neither. It kind of just mushes down into itself. We have kept about .5" to 2" right along. We did have some rain and melt off one day, and saw some of the grass. But we soon got another dusting.

Tomorrow, however, is all about rain. =Sigh= So we'll see.

Pine Island Glacier

In mid-October 2011, NASA scientists working in Antarctica discovered a massive crack across the Pine Island Glacier, a major ice stream that drains the West Antarctic Ice Sheet. Extending for 19 miles (30 kilometers), the crack was 260 feet (80 meters) wide and 195 feet (60 meters) deep. Eventually, the crack will extend all the way across the glacier, and calve a giant iceberg that will cover about 350 square miles (900 square kilometers).

This image from the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) instrument on NAS's Terra spacecraft was acquired Nov. 13, 2011, and covers an area of 27 by 32 miles (44 by 52 kilometers), and is located near 74.9 degrees south latitude, 101.1 degrees west longitude.

With today's weather Spring can't come fast enough, just as long as it isn't wet like last year.

Quoting NEwxguy:

How many winters have you seen where models are boring, with no chance of a major storm week after week. There may be hints and then they just disappear.

A few years ago it was this boring. It happens every few years here in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

Wow, MM - that is some really cold temperatures. I guess the Ice Truckers will have plenty of ice to travel. Those are the type of temps I associate Alaska with. it maybe a wrong association, but it was something as a kid you thought and realized I didn't want any part of that kind of cold

Quoting Blizzard92:
Ah the birds are chirping, squirrels are running... just another 40F morning in upstate New York.

I know I have written a blog in a while, but there really isn't anything to write about. Many of noted several storm chances through the end of this week, but I never really saw much of a chance. A good rule of thumb is if I am not mentioning model runs for a particular date, I am not interested. I will try to get a blog out Thursday evening detailing the pattern.
