RAS: Could start planting on Saturday or Sunday, but soil should be pretty wet from today's rain and there's a slight chance of showers on Saturday & Sunday. Sun & clouds Saturday, mostly cloudy Sunday. It will be warm Monday but with a better chance of showers and thunderstorms. Will have at least 3 days straight of sun and highs in the mid 60's starting Tuesday.
Member Since: December 17, 2009 Posts: 0 Comments: 796
Thank you TT. I take it you see tremendous warm up and out of these 40's and 50's for highs? I need it to dry out as well.

Ladies and Gentlemen of southern new england and the mid-atlantic, start your spring planting on Tuesday!
Member Since: December 17, 2009 Posts: 0 Comments: 796
Thanks, LT. I saw those beautiful days in the forecast, but I also saw some chilly rainy days not long after that. Hopefully things aren't that ugly once it gets here, as we all know long range isn't always reliable.

I'm ready for lows around 50, not highs. These seeds and plants need the warm soil and sunshine.

I'm actually planting some new vegetable crops this year, some of them from France and Spain and one from Africa. Should be an interesting challenge.

Welcome back Hoy! Spring should be here (for awhile) on Sun. and Mon.!

I've returned from a wonderful three week holiday under warm sunny skies in Europe and am wondering where our spring is. Any idea?

Nice find, listenerVT, I'm sure they appreciate your efforts.

Currently in Brooklyn: 46 degrees and overcast

Currently in Zaragoza, Spain (where i was yesterday): 82 degrees and sunshine

Really missing that...

Wow! The Southern Alaska Peninsula had winds in the 90's today!

Turnagain Arm near Anchorage can get some real nasty winds and severe blizzards.

Looks like 3"-5" accumulated yesterday across the higher elevations of the PA northern tier and Catskills. Ratios were like 5:1.

Free the Bulbs!

On Wednesday, I shoveled 3.5 ft of snow off the bulb garden on the north side of the house.

And look what I found underneath!

...sun starved and needing to breathe a bit and stretch and blossom...and so deserving of my efforts.

The result (there are daffodils too!)...

MarylandGirl is correct; it was a Canada Goose.
They are headed home again.

Best not to stress the birds this time of year; many are in migration and pretty tired out.

Ah, so you originated the wonderful kerfluffle word, LT! Thanks for this and the great photo. I'll tell my dog to stear clear of the geese. :)

You are more than welcome too. But by the time the latter month rolls around and I'm predicting low 80's, abundant sunshine, and low relative humidity for your area in the wooded regions of PA, I'll be your favorite blogger.

But, I am a Packers fan from South Carolina. I hate the Panthers. I'm not of big fan of Ben Rapisburger. So then again, maybe I'll never be your favorite blogger no matter what.

Regards,
Ainslee.

Please start predicting low 80's ASAP.

It was nice to see the Packers take the super bowl this year.

Sunday looks like it's going to be a beautiful day for the LSV. The 12z GFS has a high of 76 for KMDT. It also shows a high of 78 for Monday with a chance of thunderstorms. Once again I'll be keeping an eye on timing for the tstorms as the ECMWF is a bit slower than the GFS in evolving this system.

Great photo of the bird, Listener! What kind is it?

The birds here have been quite active with singing and flitting about. My dog's loving it - she's chasing them all over the yard and then comes to me to see if it's ok for her to do that. LOL Beautiful day!

Best not to stress the birds this time of year; many are in migration and pretty tired out.

Also, if you get any geese, best not let your dog near them or your dog may not come out of it on top. Mating season is beginning and the ganders can be a bit testy.

As witness, this kerfluffle:

Possibly up to 6 inches of snow for Western Areas of PA near the Canonsburg/Pittsburgh region into mid next week. Several global models such as the GFS and CMC are onboard so far. I'm hoping it's not taking into account the mid-level lapse rates though, cuz I can easily do with just rain!! I am SO ready for spring!!

Although these models have been flipflopping and haven't been very consistent at all so hopefully it's just a fluke. Either way though, it looks to get really cold again. Ugggghhh!

I would really like to put you on ignore.

I know. I have so many flowers to plant yet. And I hate to be late with the vegetables...especially the tomatoes cuz so many count on me for them!!

there are so many cool temp vegetables to be started by now in the ground. and i like to get my potatoes in a bit early and nice and big before the colorado potato beetle gets out of the ground to cause problems. it's too early for annual flowers and summer vegetables still though. I need some dry conditions with warm soil temps though

Snow this morning, then sleet and wind. Sick with strep and chilled to the bone. Bone weary. That's what I am of this dark, cold excuse for spring. The combination of warmth and sunshine is one I'd pay for right now.

On and off moderate snow up here in northern VT. Temp 36F. How much will we get?

Really? All stations reporting rain up there at 1pm. I would expect a coating to half inch for areas seeing snowfall. A coating possible tomorrow with rain showers mixing by mid day.
