What a ride...

... but what a downer. Power finally went out during a typhoon. Since it passed on the West side of the island (the side I live on AND the power generating station is on) we really got slammed. The eye must have been very close. we had about an hour of relative calm. We could see the sun for awhile from the upper deck. Just a little light breeze and trees swaying gently. Before the calm, it was very much like Bolaven and Sanba. THEN CAME THE BACK SIDE! We face the ocean in a west-north-west orientation and it came directly at us. There are some trees across the street which seemed to take a little off the edge, but we were not getting rain; we were getting spray from the ocean.M

Power was off at this location for about 18 hours. The previous longest I had heard from anyone on the previous 2 typhoons was about 8 hours. This morning when I went to school, there were still places along the way without power. The teacher in the room next to me is still in the dark 42 hours later. He did tell me that he could hear the transformers in his area explode. After proclaiming to my family how efficient the Okinawans were at keeping power and internet on in the 2 previous storms, being this close to the eye, I suspect, just overwhelmed the system.
