I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and have always had a fascination with weather, its extremes, and stats. I'm also in CoCoRaHS: Belmont 0.7 WSW.

As the next storm system is moving into the Bay Area today, I quickly snapped the brilliant sunrise as I was heading to work.

Quite a wet December we're having here in California. As of noon, Dec. 26, 2012, here in Belmont, SF Bay Area, we have recorded 6.14", as on-and-off showers continue today.
The maximum single-day rainfall has been the 1.96" on Dec. 23rd.
The current water year total (beginning July 1st) is now at 11.35".
Another Low Pressure System will move into our area mid-day Friday. As the ground is saturated, the good news is that this won't be a major event for us, with the NWS-Monterey predicting less than half an inch of precipitation. Showers are expected to linger into Saturday, with dry weather Sunday as a ridge of high pressure moves over the eastern Pacific, keeping us dry into 2013. This will give us a chance to dry out a bit and the rivers and streams to subside.
