The Nor'easter that was once Ida should arrive mid to late afternoon Saturday the 14th for about an 18 hour visit. I might pick up an inch of rain. I have a good chance of breaking the record 1.08" for this date. What falls after midnight has no chance of breaking Sunday's record 2.24". Temps should remain steady at 45-50 throughout the event, which is a good thing. 10 or 15 degrees cooler would bring heavy wet snow in the 6 to 8 inch range, with the resultant tree limbs down and sporadic power outages. It should wind down early to late Sunday morning, then a return to quiet and seasonable weather for the next several days...
UPDATE 10AM Sunday 15th-- I was about right on the 18 hour visit from Ex-Ida, 3PM yesterday to 9AM today, and temps did remain steady between 46-52, I was off by a few degrees LOL. BUT...The rain was very spotty and slow until 10PM. (0.11") It didn't even drive me inside or put out my fire(See profile pic). It actually stopped raining several times. The winds were never an issue--North 10MPH gusting to 15MPH LOL. So I didn't break my rainfall record yesterday. If only the heavy stuff had moved in a few hours earlier. Had heavy bursts of rain between 10PM-3AM, then it tapered off the same way it started until 9AM. Unofficial total of 2.26" for the event--0.75" yesterday, 1.51" up to 9AM today. Now I'm off to the other place to check on possible basement flooding...
Why did I say "possible" basement flooding? I should know the drill by now. That much rain that fast ALWAYS overwhelms the sump pump. But never more than 1/8 inch deep, so there is no damage. Nevertheless, that water has to be removed before it creates a stench. Out came the 5 gallon wet vac. I dumped it 8 times. That's right folks, 40 gallons removed by me, and who knows how much by the sump pump. Good thing the outside temp was 58 so I could leave the door open to speed up the drying process...I have performed this task, on average, 3 or 4 times a year. So I have it down to a science by now. I was done in less than 2 hours. If anybody is still reading this and you have the same flooding problem, check back in a few days for some tips from an old hat LOL. For now, lesson one I learned the hard way: get a back up generator for the sump pump. Basement flood PLUS power outage results in many hours of manual labor with a mop and bucket and squeegie...

...Brings Mud Season! And any snow that falls is called "Poor man's fertilizer." Especially after the farmers plow the fields. Yes it can still snow well into April, even double digits. The 3rd & 4th, 1975 (12.7"), and the 6th & 7th, 1982 are good examples. Now I can add the 4th & 5th, 2007 to the list. The 10.4" on 4-13-1962 is the latest recorded double digit snowfall. The 30th is the only day without recorded snow--AVERAGES & RECORDS:4-01: 46/28 64(1986) 4...

March certainly came in like a lion with 6.6 inches of snow on the second, breaking the 20 year old record of 6.1 inches in 1987. As you can see below, it can still snow any day in March, with some impressive totals through the middle of the month. The 17.2" on 3-14-84 is the most in my lifetime and the 3rd highest recorded total behind 25.5" on 12-30-62 and 18.9" on 11-15-62--MARCH OVER THE YEARS:3-01: 35/16 53(1974) -11(1982) 1.29"(1999) 8.0" SNOW(1968)3-02: 35/...

The last time I had a record low was -12 on March 11, 2005. Going on almost 2 years now. I had zero record lows in 2006. Only 7 record highs. 3 in January, 2 in February, 1 in November, 1 in December. Funny how they all came during winter months...New format columns:Average high/low temps.Record high/low (years)Record precip.
