2010 FINAL NUMBERS

By: BANGORWALKER , 1:50 PM GMT on January 04, 2010

Will this Winter mirror last year? It won't bother me one bit if it does. Last Winter started typical enough, and so far Bangor has been on the same path. As with last Winter, we have started out a little above average on snowfall. Last year, 14 inches of snow fell January 18-20th, and that was the end of the heavy stuff. A record rainfall of 1.71" and 51 degrees melted most of the snow on January 25. Winter was effectively over after that. A few stray inches of snow fell in late January, followed by a short cold snap the first week of February. Then the anomolies started. From February 8 to March 25, Bangor had 46 consecutive days of above average temps. 29 of those days were double digits above average. February was the warmest on record for Bangor, and the 3rd least snowiest at 2.2". March was the 2nd warmest on record, and tied for the least snowiest at 0.9". The golf course had never opened in March before. Last year they opened on the last official day of Winter. Yes I would gladly take a repeat of last Winter...

WHITE WASH (BANGORWALKER)
It looks like Mother Nature painted the North sides of all my trees...
WHITE WASH
WONDER OF WIND (BANGORWALKER)
I wonder why it is that Mother Nature's wind would clear a spot under the bird feeder, while blowing a 4 to 6 foot drift along the West side of my house, effectively burying my 3 steps down off the back deck...or could it be that I placed the bird feeder in a spot that has been clear of snow several times in past Winters?
WONDER OF WIND
BREAKING THROUGH (BANGORWALKER)
On the day after the blizzard, I managed to break through the drift so that I can use the steps off my back deck. Since then, I have chopped the drift into blocks and made a "snow wall" out from each side of the bottom of the steps to hold my artificial turf in place

Heavy if you came in here looking for snow, it's way too early...but I do remember video taping 4 inches of HEAVY, wet SNOW on October 10, 2000, at 6:45AM. Walking in slush and getting footage of branches snapping and falling. It was all melted within 2 hours though...

Of course all of you know about "Bert and I", but I just got introduced this week and the site is so great I had to bring it over.

I swear - this country is so big and so diverse there's no telling what treasures are tucked away in one area or another. I couldn't help but think of a favorite from closer to home - Garrison Keillor's Lake Woebegon. Regional dialects, humor and food - what could be better?

Quoting shoreacres:
OK. It's official. The Weather Envy season has set it.

Enjoy those temps. It's so hot and humid here even the cicadas are complaining - loudly. But the slant of the sunlight is different, and I can't see the sunset from my desk window any longer. It won't be long ;-)

I second that...still in the 90's here with a heat indexs close to over 100. Will gloat again when you are in the 30's and I am in the 70's...lol

Member Since: January 17, 2006 Posts: 18 Comments: 3412
Earl=overrated.

It's raining, like any other rainy day. Not even raining hard.

The storm will keep it humid here, but the sun being gone will help, after it blows through back to normal temps. for this time of year, cannot wait!

We never really worry much about hurricanes up here. Looking forward to the rain though.

Crossroads--Earl will cool us off and give us much needed rain. Stay safe...

73 degress & 9pm, 20 degress more than it should be this time of year. How much more of this can we take? Bring on that hurricane! At work we were just discussing this today, we live in Maine why do we need A/C? But meh! Ya live & learn I guess.

Not this late that I can remember. Yesterday I saw 93. I know some parts of the state tied records the day before. The record is 95 which we'll be near tomorrow.

Breald I have so many of them every day I don't know what to do with them! Luckily I have neighbors and relatives that don't have gardens, so they are very grateful when I give them my "surplus"...

My sister is loaded with cucumbers here in MA. I have three of them on my counter and they are very big.

Hey that's great for you. Looks like here nature's own air conditioning is starting to kick in. It's 5am and it's 64 out. Lows in the upper 50's/low 60's for the upcoming week in my zip code, sweet! Can't wait for September where im guessing high's will be in the low 70's & lows in the lower 50's gosh I get excited just thinking about it!!

Working in sales I can tell you they are! Right around the 4th they started selling like hotcakes. I still refuse to buy one, too expensive for 1 or 2 months of use as much as it would be nice right now.

The Summer has been unbearable!! I cannot wait til' the Fall! We aren't accustomed to constant heat/humidity. I never would want to be used to it either! You can only take so much clothing off!! Mr. Obama will be suprised how hot this state gets tomorrow huh.

My house was built in 1959...but I digress. I cut all the shade trees so that Mother Nature would give me free heat in the Winter. So what happens on the hot days now is my own fault. I have the man cave in the basement. Full kitchen and half bath. I set up a couch down there for times like these...
