Heavy rain from thunderstorms caused flash floods and heavy traffic in Kuala Lumpur.

The roads from Jalan Raja Chulan heading towards Jalan P. Ramlee were affected with reports stating that only heavy vehicles are able to pass the route.

Jalan Sultan Ismail(Chinatown) was also affected, causing heavy congestion on the roads heading out of the city center.

On the PLUS highway, an accident was reported along KM 19.3 Damansara - Kota Damansara road and traffic heading towards Subang was reported to be slow.

Traffic from Nilai heading towards Seremban was also slow on the Plus highway this evening.

As of 11PM traffic congestion has eased but LLM(Lebuhraya Lembaga Malaysia) GIS,Waze,Google Maps and traffic webcams still indicate traffic congestion in several areas around the Kuala Lumpur.

According to http://infobanjir.water.gov.my/real_time.cfm Taman Mayang received the highest amount of rainfall within the Klang Valley received with 57 mm of rain.

However, the area that recorded the highest amount of rainfall was Sri Aman in the District of Kuala Selangor with 67 mm of rain.

The southern areas however received much less rainfall with Puchong Drop receiving 15 mm of rainfall and Ayer Hitam Puchong receiving 1 mm of rain at 5:15 PM.Seri kembangan received 0 mm.

Pulau Kuala Saleh and several other areas in the state of Selangor and the Federal territory of Kuala Lumpur also received 0 mm of rain.

The Sultan Abdul Aziz Airport also saw heavy rain at 5 PM with wind gusts of 52 km/h recorded.

This storm also caused the third power surge this week to hit my house.

This storm was caused by the moist sea breeze converging with the prevailing northeasterly winds caused by the northeast monsoon.

This type of weather pattern usually occurs during the intermonsoon periods which are March,April,May and September,October and November when the northeasterly winds are light.

The occurrence of this weather pattern is much less during December,January and February as the northeasterly winds are slightly stronger.
