Thick smoke will continue to plague portions of the northern and central Sacramento Valley today and tonight. Most of the smoke is coming from fires in Trinity County. Visibility may drop below two miles at times over portions of Shasta... Tehama... Glenn... Butte... Sutter... Yuba... Colusa and lake counties.
A moderate Delta breeze will allow for better visibility and air quality in the southern Sacramento Valley today. Light north winds may increase tonight as surface high pressure builds into southern Oregon. This could spread smoke farther south toward the Sacramento area. Thicker smoke is expected to remain confined to areas farther north... but some deterioration in air quality may affect the Sacramento area tonight.
Stronger upvalley winds will develop during the day Saturday... and stronger southwest winds aloft will carry smoke higher into the atmosphere. This should result in improved visibility and better air quality for most areas Saturday and Sunday.
