1866 — 150 years ago: Peter Rueth, well known in this city and Moline for the last 10 years, has purchased Charley Baker's saloon on Illinois Street.
1891 — 125 years ago: Will Eggleston left for Chicago to introduce the new Johnson Galt ruby pin setter to jewelers of that city.
1916 — 100 years ago: Construction of the new Franklin School was finished and the building announced as ready to open in September.
1941 — 75 years ago: Ray Krause, of Rock Island, is the manager of the new Weyerhaeuser and Denkman Lumber Yard.
1966 — 50 years ago: Living up to its slogan, Go Milan Grow, Milan annexed more than 340 acres of land in a single swoop at a special meeting of the Village Board last night. The land annexed includes a 40-acre tract, which the board voted to purchase for $40,000 for use as a park and picnic area.
1991 — 25 years ago: Hard work and strong family ties weaved their ways in to the fabric of success for two area farmers who recently were honored as Illinois Jaycees Outstanding Young Farmers. Jerry and Lori Norman, of rural Erie, and Mike and Kathleen Holt, of rural Woodhull, were named first and second runners-up, respectively, in the 1991 Illinois Jaycees Outstanding Young Farmers award program held Aug. 17 in Moline.
