1912 -- 100 years ago: Victor DeJonckheere, Belgian aviator, was injured yesterday when his plane fell after rising 20 feet at Exposition Park, Rock Island.
1937 -- 75 years ago: John M. Paridon, a 93-year-old Rock Island man, last night was voted a life membership in the Rock Island Horseshoe Club. Lawrence Paridon was elected president of the group, and Mel H. Hodge was elected secretary-treasurer.
1962 -- 50 years ago: Fines totaling $500 were assessed against 10 minors arrested last night at Hunter's Club, 2109 4th Ave., Rock Island, during two separate checks by police and detectives. The same club was closed early the previous night when officers and persons on duty at the club found themselves unable to control the crowd, estimated at more than 100 persons, the majority of whom were under 25 years of age.
1987 -- 25 years ago: Moline students caught under the influence of drugs or alcohol next year may receive less punishment if they participate in an alcohol or drug rehabilitation program. Current policy calls for a 10-day suspension. School board members Tuesday adopted a new policy giving students an opportunity to reduce the 10-day suspension to three days if they participate in an approved drug or alcohol program.
