... Winter Weather Advisory in effect until noon CST today...

The National Weather Service in Quad Cities has issued a Winter
Weather Advisory for snow... sleet and freezing rain... which is in
effect until noon CST today.

* Timing... through late morning.

* Snow accumulations... up to 1 inch. Isolated amounts around 2
inches possible near Interstate 80 over far eastern Iowa and
northwest Illinois.

* Ice accumulations... a trace to a few hundredths of an inch. Any
ice that occurs will melt around mid day.

* Winds... south 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.

* Visibilities... under a half mile at times in bursts of snow.

* Temperatures... rising into the lower 30s.

* Impacts... the sleet... snow or light freezing rain may result in
hazardous travel late tonight through the morning commute.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow... sleet... or
freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for
slippery roads and limited visibilities... and be careful while.






... Moderate freezing rain at times through 8 am...

Freezing rain... mixed at times with sleet and snow... will continue
through around 8 am before diminishing. Icing on elevated surfaces
could reach near quarter inch in some locations just north of
Interstate 80 in Iowa... and near Highway 30 in Illinois. All
locations will see very slick conditions on untreated roads until
temperatures rise above freezing around 10 am.

1989 -- 25 years ago: A Rock Island County committee has approved a jail inmate phone service that could bring the county an additional $30,000 to $40,000 a year.
