1890 -- 125 years ago: Sheriff-elect Gordon yesterday appointed Henry Tomer of Zuma as bailiff.
1915 -- 100 years ago: The program clock recently provided for the high school by the board of education was installed yesterday.
1940 -- 75 years ago: A Pageant of Light Parade will dedicate Yule decorations and open the Christmas season in the city tonight.
1965 -- 50 years ago: The Social Security district office in Rock Island will remain open until 9 p.m. Monday for several weeks for the convenience of residents of Rock Island County area. Maze pointed out it is important for many people to get in touch with the district office to take advantage of the health insurance and other provisions of the new 1965 amendments to the social security program.
1990 -- 25 years ago: Hyman's Furniture Store Inc., Rock Island, will celebrate its 70th anniversary with a special opening for 1 to 4 p.m. today.
