1866 — 150 years ago: The Davenport people are agitating the question of creating a water power plant by excavating a canal from a point near the foot of Fulton's Island, just above Pleasant Valley, to Davenport.
1891 — 125 years ago: The Davenport Lumber Company sold the old sawmill and nine acres of ground to J.S. Keator, Charles Hamenway and Charles Rose, all of Rock Island and Moline.
1916 — 100 years ago: Clyde McBridge was named temporary manager of the Rock Island baseball team following the resignation of Pete Lister.
1941 — 75 years ago: Jacob Lowry, Davenport, was re-elected president of the Rock Island Arsenal Employees Aid Association.
1966 — 50 years ago: Paul Norton, 2521 Jersey Ridge Road, a well known Quad City artist, has completed a painting of the clock Tower for the august centennial celebration of the Rock Island District of the U.S. Army corps of engineers.
1991 — 25 years ago: Deere & Co. will build a family health-care center in the Quad-Cities to provide medical care for its 35,000 Quad-Cities employees, retirees and dependents, company officials announced today.
