1866 — 150 years ago: Any well-educated, capable physician can get a fine run of practice in one of the best townships in this county by purchasing the property of Dr. Tyler, of Edington.
1891 — 125 years ago: John Broach's saloon, 5th Avenue and 12th Street, was entered by burglars early this morning. After making friends with the watchdog, they helped themselves to three kegs of beer.
1916 — 100 years ago: M.E. Justice, president of the Central Baseball Association, told M.H. Sexton of this city, president of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues, that he had an organization perfected in Rock Island to take over the franchise in the Central circuit.
1941 — 75 years ago: The East Moline Works Employees Association at the East Moline plant of the International Harvester company has granted company officials a few more days to complete negotiations to settle their labor dispute.
1966 — 50 years ago: Spring weather will abound in the Quad-Cities tonight and tomorrow with a good chance that a new record high will be set tomorrow. The record high for Feb. 9 is 55 degrees set in 1938. The forecast for tomorrow calls for a high near 60.
1991 — 25 years ago: Retailers use them to keep shoplifters from walking off with their merchandise. Now hospitals are using electronic security devices to protect a more precious commodity: newborns. Amid growing concern about infant abductions, more and more babies are wearing sensor bracelets until they go home.
