Special Weather Statement
Statement as of 1:58 PM CDT on May 27, 2012

... Record heat continues this Holiday weekend...

The hot Memorial Day weekend continues... with record or near record
high temperatures in the mid and upper 90s. Due to a lack of
moisture... heat index values should stay close to the actual air
temperatures... generally in the upper 90s to near 100. This is the
hottest air this area has seen so far this year. The last time it
was this hot... was back in early September 2011.

Follow the basic rules of heat safety to keep from becoming
overheated and dehydrated. Drink plenty of water... wear light
colored... light weight clothing... and avoid strenuous activities
during the hottest part of the day. Take frequent breaks and be
sure to put on a high spf sunscreen to limit the potential for
sunburn. Make sure pets have plenty of fresh water.

In addition... with moderate to severe drought conditions in
place... the risk of wildfires remains somewhat elevated. Exercise
caution with any outdoor burning this weekend.
