The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
Anoka County in east central Minnesota...
Carver County in east central Minnesota...
Hennepin County in east central Minnesota...
Isanti County in east central Minnesota...
northwestern Dakota County in east central Minnesota...
Ramsey County in east central Minnesota...
Scott County in east central Minnesota...
western Chisago County in east central Minnesota...

* until 330 am CDT

* at 939 PM CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
slow moving thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall continue to
develop and move across the warned area. Doppler radar rainfall
rates are ranging from 1 to 2 inches an hour. Additional rainfall
through 6 am Monday could exceed 2 inches in some areas.

* Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flash flooding to
occur. Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Cambridge... Minneapolis... North Branch... Plymouth... St Paul...
Andover... Anoka... Apple Valley... Arden Hills... Belle Plaine...
Blaine... Bloomington... Bodum... Braham... branch... Brooklyn Center...
Brooklyn Park... Burnsville... Carver... Cedar... Centerville...
Champlin... Chanhassen... Chaska... Chisago City... Circle Pines...
Coates... Cologne... Columbia Heights and Coon Rapids.

Urban areas will be particularly prone to flash flooding as sewers
will become overwhelmed. Water will pool in low lying areas...
Highway underpasses as well as Road construction areas. Mudslides
are also possible especially in areas of construction. Small creeks
and streams will rise quickly due to the intense rainfall.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flash flooding is observed act quickly. Do
not enter the water. Turn around and move up to higher ground to
escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas subject to flooding when
water begins rising.

* Bankfull stage is 838.0 feet.
* Forecast... flood stage may be reached by Saturday early afternoon.
The river is forecast to crest at 838.0 next Sunday.

the Crow River at Rockford
* from Wednesday morning until further notice.
* At 10:45 PM Sunday the stage was 8.5 feet.
* Minor flooding is possible.
* Bankfull stage is 9.2 feet.
* Forecast... flood stage may be reached by Wednesday morning. The
river is forecast to 11.2 feet on Friday.

* from late Thursday night until further notice.
* At 10:00 PM Sunday the stage was 697.2 feet.
* Minor flooding is possible.
* Bankfull stage is 698.0 feet.
* Forecast... flood stage may be reached by Friday morning. The river
is forecast to 703.9 feet next Sunday.

* until 230 am CDT Monday

* at 815 PM CDT... trained weather spotters reported minor flooding
due to the intense rainfall near I 94 and Broadway. Rainfall rates
of 1 to 2 inches in an hour are occurring with these storms which
will cause localized flooding problems. Additional thunderstorms
are moving in from the south which will continue to cause problems
across much of the Twin Cities Metro area. Rainfall amounts of an
additional 1 to 2 inches can be expected with the new storms.

* Some locations that will experience minor flooding include...

* widespread rainfall totals of one to three inches are likely
tonight. The heavy rain may fall in a short period of time.

* Flooding is possible in low lying and poor drainage areas.
Heavy rainfall in short periods of time frequently cause urban
flooding and can wash out rural roads. Any ground that is
saturated will add to flooding potential. In addition to the
threat of flash flooding... the heavy rains could also result
in flooding along area creeks and rivers.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
