... A widespread hard freeze is expected tonight and again Sunday night...
The strong cold front that moved through the region on Friday has brought an unseasonably cold air mass into the eastern Sierra and western Nevada. Skies will become clear overnight which will allow for strong radiational cooling. Temperatures... which were only in the 40s across much of the region Saturday afternoon... will begin to plummet after sunset. Temperatures tonight are expected to fall into the lower to mid 20s across urban areas of western Nevada... and into the teens for the outlying areas and colder valleys of eastern California and western Nevada. Low temperatures Sunday night will only be a couple of degrees warmer than tonight... but will still be well below freezing.
People need to plan accordingly for this change to colder weather. Temperature sensitive plants and animals should be protected or brought indoors. In addition... water sprinkler systems and outdoor pipes should be wrapped... covered up... or drained to avoid damage.
