Fire Weather Warning
Statement as of 6:43 am PDT on September 6, 2008

... Red flag warning now in effect until 11 PM PDT this evening for
moderate offshore winds and low relative humidities in fire
weather zone 618 in Curry County Oregon and fire weather zone 280
in western Siskiyou County California...

The red flag warning is now in effect until 11 PM PDT this
evening.

A thermal trough along the coast will continue to produce breezy
conditions over the ridge tops and along the coast through this
evening. Sustained northeast winds of 6 to 20 mph at mid and
higher elevations of western Siskiyou County... and 6 to as high
as 25 mph along the coast and in the Curry County coastal mountains
this morning will weaken some and become less widespread this
afternoon and evening as high pressure over eastern Oregon
weakens.

Meanwhile... poor relative humidity recoveries this morning of 25
to 40 percent in western Siskiyou County... and of only 20 to 30
percent along the coast this morning... will lead to another very
dry afternoon. Relative humidities this afternoon through this
evening will bottom out between 8 and 18 percent this afternoon.

High pressure over eastern Oregon and the thermal trough along the
coast are both expected to weaken this evening... causing winds to
decrease and relative humidities to recover better... bringing an
end to red flag warning conditions.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now... or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds... low relative humidity... and warm temperatures will
create explosive fire growth potential.
