![]() Local Radar Image Forecast and Conditions for Fort Lauderdale, Florida
... High risk of rip currents Atlantic beaches... ... Minor coastal flooding possible along the Atlantic coast today and tonight... East winds of around 20 mph will prevail along the Atlantic beaches of Palm Beach... Broward... and Miami-Dade counties. This will generate rip currents at the beaches, with strong rip currents likely. The high risk of rip currents likely will continue at the Atlantic beaches through the middle part of the week. A rip current is a 10 to 30 yard wide channel of water that can pull even a strong swimmer from near or inside The Sand Bar into deeper water. Due to the life threatening dangers that these strong currents of water pose... swimming is not advised. If you do go into the water... swim at guarded beaches and heed the advice of the beach patrol. If caught in the seaward pull of a rip current do not attempt to move directly toward shore. Instead... move sideways across the rip current until the pull eases... then you can swim back safely to shore. There is also the possibility of minor coastal flooding along the barrier islands of the Atlantic coast today and tonight. The factors leading to this possibility include a rather strong onshore wind flow... higher than normal tides... and the possibility of localized heavy rainfall. This could lead to isolated street flooding and flooding of low lying areas along the Atlantic coast, especially in the more flood prone areas of Miami Beach. This threat will be greatest during times of high tide which will be between 7 and 8 o clock this morning and this evening. Remember... do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the Road. The water may be too deep to allow your vehicle to cross safely.
High risk of rip currents...
