Tropical Weather: Tropical Storm Beryl (North Atlantic)
Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, May 28, 2012.

Tropical Storm Beryl will move slowly northwestward and then turn northward over portions of northeastern Florida and southeastern Georgia

on Monday and Monday night. Strong wind and rain will continue to effect these areas up through North Carolina as Beryl moves inland, while dangerous surf conditions, including rip currents, remain a concern along the coastal areas from northeastern Florida to North Carolina. Rainfall totals of 3 to 6 inches are expected from northern Florida through southeastern North Carolina from this system. For more information on Beryl, please visit http://www.wunderground.com/tropical.

Meanwhile, to the north, the deep storm in the Dakotas will lift northeastward across the Upper Mississippi Valley with scattered showers and thunderstorms. The cold front associated with this system will extend southwestward from the low through the Southern Plains. Showers and thunderstorms will form ahead of the front from the Central and Southern Plains into the Upper Great Lakes. There is a slight risk of severe storms from Wisconsin and Michigan southwestward across portions of eastern Iowa, northern Indiana, Illinois, and northeastern Missouri. While the main concerns with storms in these areas are damaging wind gusts and large hail, a few tornadoes may also become possible. To the south, areas of south-central Oklahoma into northwestern Texas may experience hail and damaging wind gusts. To the east of this system, an associated warm front will extend through the Northeast and will become nearly stationary. Moisture overrunning this front will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms from areas of the Lower Great Lakes into the Northeast. There is a slight risk of severe storms from upstate New York into Vermont and western Massachusetts with isolated hail events.

In the west, showers will continue across parts of the Northern Intermountain West and Northern Rockies, while a cold front brings cool, cloudy and chances of showers to the Pacific Northwest.

northwestern Washburn County in northwest Wisconsin...
southern Douglas County in northwest Wisconsin...

* until 130 PM CDT Monday

* at 123 am CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
slow moving thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall across the
warned area. The Duluth Doppler radar indicates that 2 to 4
inches of rain had fallen across much of the warning area.

* Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flooding to occur.
Some locations that will experience flooding include... Alpha...
Branstad... Chaffey... Cloverton... Cozy Corner... Dairyland...
Danbury... Falun... Four Corners... Gordon... Grantsburg... Hertel...
Kingsdale... Markville... Moose Junction... Riverside... Siren... Solon
Springs... Trade Lake... Trade River... Wascott... Webb Lake... Webster
and yellowlake.

After several days of heavy rainfall... the ground is already
saturated across the warned area. As a result... the rainfall from
Sunday evening and Monday morning will tend to runoff. Creeks...
streams and rivers are already swollen from heavy rain... and ditches
and culverts are full as well. More rain will move into the area
overnight... resulting in additional runoff. It can take some time
for water to start flooding... and the impact of the excess runoff
will likely take some time to be maximized.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flash flooding is observed act quickly. Do
not enter the water. Turn around and move up to higher ground to
escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas subject to flooding when
water begins rising.

Flash Flood Watch
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 3:31 AM CDT on May 28, 2012

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 7 am CDT this
morning...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin... including the
following areas... in Minnesota... Carlton/southern St. Louis...
central St. Louis... Crow Wing... northern Aitkin... northern
Cook/Northern Lake... Pine... southern Aitkin... southern
Cook/Lakeshore... southern Itasca and Southern Lake/Lakeshore.
In northwest Wisconsin... Burnett... Douglas and Washburn.

* Until 7 am CDT this morning

* additional heavy rain is possible this morning along a cold
front lifting east northeastward through the region. The
potential for flash flooding still exists this morning due to
the fact that much of the area has received 1 to 3 inches of
rainfall in the past two days. Soils are saturated... and any
additional heavy rain in a short period of time will likely
become runoff... and contribute to the flooding potential.

* If you live near a river... stream or in a low lying area... be
sure to monitor for possible flash flood warnings and be ready
to head to cover in the event flooding occurs. This could be a
very dangerous situation where water rises very quickly.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
