Tropical Weather: Subtropical Storm Beryl (North Atlantic) Tropical Storm Sanvu (Western Pacific)
Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, May 27, 2012. More interesting weather for many parts of the country is expected Sunday. Subtropical Storm Beryl will continue on its path toward the northeast coast of Florida near Georgia. It is expected to make landfall with tropical storm strength winds either late Sunday night or early Monday morning. This storm will not be a signficant wind threat, and the rain associated with it will mostly be a blessing to this region as it has suffered through an exceptional drought.

Elsewhere, an intense heat wave will continue for the Plains and Southeast while also spreading northward into the Ohio Valley and Upper Midwest. Maximum temperature records are most likely to be broken for many areas as temperatures will soar into the 90s and 100s. Even more dangerous will be the heat index values over 100 degrees. The heat index tells you how hot the air feels. The more humid the weather, the higher the heat index will soar. Thankfully, many areas will not experience the extremely high humidity common during the Summer months.

In the West, a strong storm will move through the Northern Rockies and into the Dakotas. This storm will bring widespread rain and even some snow from Idaho through Minnesota. The associated cold front will move through the Plains, possibly instigating some strong thunderstorms that could become severe.

The Northeast will rise into the 70s and 80s, while the Southeast and Southern Plains will see temperatures in the 90s and 100s. The Northwest will rise into the 70s.

Flash Flood Watch
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 11:51 AM EDT on May 27, 2012

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect from 6 PM EDT this evening
through Tuesday morning...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* a portion of southeast Georgia... including the following
areas... coastal Bryan... coastal Chatham... coastal Liberty...
coastal McIntosh... Evans... inland Bryan... inland Chatham...
inland Liberty... inland McIntosh... long and Tattnall.

* From 6 PM EDT this evening through Tuesday morning

* subtropical storm Beryl will approach the region today and
move onshore across far northeast Florida this evening. Beryl
is then expected to meander across southeast Georgia and far
northeast Florida through Monday before pushing offshore of
the South Carolina coast Tuesday.

* This system has the potential to produce heavy rainfall with
general rainfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches across much of
southeast Georgia. At this time the highest rain amounts are
expected to occur near the Altamaha river. Much of this will
likely fall tonight into Monday with the risk for heavy rain
persisting into Tuesday morning. Elevated tides at the coast
may enhance the risk for flash flooding east of Interstate 95.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means there is a potential for flash flooding
based on current forecasts. Monitor the latest forecasts and be
alert for possible flash flood warnings. Those living in areas
prone to flooding should be prepared to take action if flooding
develops.

Tropical Storm Warning
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 12:59 PM EDT on May 27, 2012

... Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect...

... Probability of tropical storm/hurricane conditions...
the chance for hurricane conditions at this time is very small.
Also... the chance for tropical storm conditions at this time is
up to 67 percent. This represents a general steady trend since the
last forecast.

... Winds...
North East winds continue to increase across the area. There have
been some recent reports of wind gusts near tropical storm force
near the immediate coast. Maximum sustained winds are forecast to
be 30 to 40 mph with gusts of 45 to 55 mph... especially by later
this afternoon and into this evening.

Residents should move loose items indoors... such as garbage cans
and outdoor furniture... as they will be blown around. Newly
planted or Young trees and shrubs may be uprooted if not secured
properly. Isolated power outages will be possible tonight.

... Storm surge and storm tide...
storm tide impacts are expected to be low. Up to 1 to 2 feet of
water above ground level will be possible during high tide late
tonight. A few coastal roads may have some water on them at high
tide late tonight and early Monday morning... but major arteries...
such as Route 80 between Wilmington Island and Tybee Island... are
not expected to be entirely under water based on the current track
of Beryl. Also... significant inundation of structures is not
expected at this time.

... Inland flooding...
a Flash Flood Watch is in effect for the entire area. See latest
forecast for latest information. Listen for possible flood
warnings for your location... and be ready to act if flooding
rains occur.

Brief periods of showers and thunderstorms will continue through
this afternoon as rain bands associated with Beryl approach from
the east. Given that the showers are expected to be brief...
rainfall amounts should not be more than 1/2 inch to one inch by
the end of the day. However... by tonight... heavier rainfall is
expected as more significant moisture and rain bands from the storm
move into the area. If Beryl stalls over North Florida south
Georgia for part of Monday... additional heavy rainfall will be
possible. Up to 3 to 6 inches of rainfall will be possible through
Tuesday... especially if Beryl stalls for a period on Monday. This
may result in some minor flooding of low lying... poorly drained
areas.

... Tornadoes...
as rain bands from Beryl continue to approach the coast... there
will be a threat for isolated tornadoes... especially within any
stronger showers within the rain bands. The highest threat for
isolated tornadoes will likely be later this afternoon and into
the first part of tonight.

... Coastal hazards...
as northeast winds continue to increase this afternoon there will
be a high risk for rip currents along with increasingly dangerous
surf. Some beach erosion is also expected... especially during the
next major high tide later tonight and early Monday morning.
