Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, May 27, 2012. More interesting weather for many parts of the country is expected Sunday. Subtropical Storm Beryl will continue on its path toward the northeast coast of Florida near Georgia. It is expected to make landfall with tropical storm strength winds either late Sunday night or early Monday morning. This storm will not be a signficant wind threat, and the rain associated with it will mostly be a blessing to this region as it has suffered through an exceptional drought.

Elsewhere, an intense heat wave will continue for the Plains and Southeast while also spreading northward into the Ohio Valley and Upper Midwest. Maximum temperature records are most likely to be broken for many areas as temperatures will soar into the 90s and 100s. Even more dangerous will be the heat index values over 100 degrees. The heat index tells you how hot the air feels. The more humid the weather, the higher the heat index will soar. Thankfully, many areas will not experience the extremely high humidity common during the Summer months.

In the West, a strong storm will move through the Northern Rockies and into the Dakotas. This storm will bring widespread rain and even some snow from Idaho through Minnesota. The associated cold front will move through the Plains, possibly instigating some strong thunderstorms that could become severe.

The Northeast will rise into the 70s and 80s, while the Southeast and Southern Plains will see temperatures in the 90s and 100s. The Northwest will rise into the 70s.

Areal Flood Watch, Coastal Hazard Statement
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 8:11 AM EDT on May 27, 2012

... Flood Watch remains in effect from noon EDT today through
Tuesday morning...

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of northeast Florida and southeast Georgia.

* From noon EDT today through Tuesday morning

* subtropical storm Beryl will begin to impact the area by
tonight... affecting the region into Tuesday.

* Total rainfall amounts will be near 3 to 6 inches... with locally
higher amounts in a few locations possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

949 PM EDT Sat may 26 2012

... High rip current risk remains in effect through Monday
afternoon...

* timing... the approach of subtropical storm Beryl will result
in building swells... producing a high risk of rip currents
through Monday.

* Impacts... dangerous swimming conditions will exist in the surf
zone. Large breakers can knock you down and make you
susceptible to rip currents. Stay out of the water until
conditions improve.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore... which occur most often at low spots or breaks in The
Sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins...
jetties and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards and the beach
patrol. Pay attention to flags and posted signs.

If you become caught in a rip current... do not panic. Remain calm
and begin to swim parallel to shore. Once you are away from the
force of the rip current... begin to swim back to the beach. Do
not attempt to swim directly against a rip current. Even a strong
swimmer can become exhausted quickly.

Special Statement
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 1:24 PM EDT on May 27, 2012

... Tropical Storm Warning in effect...

Outer rainbands from Tropical Storm Beryl will occasionally move
inland early this afternoon. Brief heavy downpours and temporary
wind gusts up to 45 mph can be expected with this shower activity.

More significant bands... associated with the Central Area of
Beryl... are expected to begin impacting the northeast
Florida coastline sometime between 4 and 8 PM. This band
will likely produce periods of sustained tropical storm force winds
along with very heavy rainfall.

Tropical Storm Warning
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 12:47 PM EDT on May 27, 2012

... Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect...

... Precautionary/preparedness actions...
precautionary/preparedness actions...

Secure loose outdoor objects which can be blown around. Those in
flood prone areas should make preparations for the possibility of
periods of flooding rainfall later today through Tuesday.

... Probability of tropical storm/hurricane conditions...
the chance for hurricane conditions at this time is very small.
Also... the chance for tropical storm conditions at this time is
up to 90 percent. This represents a general upward trend since
the last forecast.

... Winds...
as subtropical storm Beryl approaches... sustained tropical storm
force winds are expected to begin early this evening. Maximum
winds are forecast to be in the 30 to 40 mph range with gusts to
55 mph.

Minor damage may occur to older Mobile homes. Residents should
move loose items indoors... such as garbage cans and outdoor
furniture... as they will be blown around. Newly planted or Young
trees and shrubs may be uprooted if not secured properly.
Scattered power outages will be possible.

... Storm surge and storm tide...
as subtropical storm Beryl approaches the coast... there is an
increasing chance for combined storm surge and astronomical tide
waters up to 3 feet above mean sea level within areas closer to
the coast... resulting in worst case flood inundation of 1 to
3 feet above ground level somewhere within the surge zone. Storm
tide values will be highest near and north of the center of storm
landfall.

The locations most likely to realize the greatest coastal
flooding will be along the beaches and intracoastal waterways as
well as estuaries and inlets. Elevated water levels will begin
later today and continue Monday.

Moderate beach erosion will occur... which will become substantial
if conditions extend through multiple high tides. Several roads
in flood-prone areas may be closed due to flooding. In
addition... strong rip currents and elevated surf condition will
continue tonight through Monday.

... Inland flooding...
there is a potential for locally heavy rainfall on the order of
3 to 6 inches... possibly higher in isolated locations. Rainbands
will continue to move inland this afternoon and evening. Periods
of heavy rainfall are expected to continue through Tuesday due to
the storm slowing down once it makes landfall and stalling over
the area. A Flood Watch has been issued for areas along and north
of State Road 16 in northeast Florida as well as all of southeast
Georgia.

A Flood Watch is in effect for portions of the area. See the latest
forecast for the latest information. Listen for possible flood
warnings for your location... and be ready to act if flooding rains
occur.

... Tornadoes...
there will be a low chance of waterspouts and tornadoes this
afternoon and tonight as rainbands move inland.
